I can’t believe the city of Decatur would forgo the annexation of Rio commercial district to a
place like Avondale Estates. Why force an area that’s always been known as Decatur and the owners desire to be in Decatur and rightfully so.,to not annex this area.
No one Wants to be annexed to Avondale estates . I thought it was redicilous that the state forced parts of E. College Avenue to become part of Avlondale Estates Why is it necessary
and what reasoning is involved in your decision making to allow this to happen to an area that’s always been known as Decatur. E. Ponce from E. Decatur city limits to the Dekalb farmers marked should be annexex to Decatur with the goal of establishing Office buildings
along the South side of the street..
You should be concerned ablout what’s best fo for the City Of Decatur and the desires of the business owners, plus Decatur needs this business area . the people have spoken, please listen.
I’ll preface this by saying I do like olive oil. But, I don’t think any property owner has a right to be annexed, so we’ll take our olives and stay home.
Also – didn’t an olive oil store just open up at Emory Point? Is olive oil becoming the new frozen yogurt?
So if a major disaster hits Georgia and Decatur has to survive on its own for weeks until the National Guard can get to us, we’ll have frozen yogurt, olive oil, growlers, coffee, good pastries, running supplies, and gel nails to sustain us. I personally plan to hole up in Butter and Cream.
I can’t believe you turned your back to the businessmen after they had 87% desiring to bring
this business districk & taxes to Decatur. What a shame. So disappointing and a big mistake.
Please evaluate and go back and let them know you will welcome them to the City of Decatur.
When He broke the third seal, I heard the third living creature saying, “Come.” I looked, and behold, a black horse; and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. And I heard something like a voice in the center of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not damage the oil and the wine.”
Can a store that sells just olive oil make it here? I know we’re not to supposed to ask those questions here, and it’s ultimately not my concern, but I don’t think we’ve crossed that Rubicon, as STG put it.
Not being a gourmet cook, I’m amazed that these narrow scope markets succeed. What’s next? Slice of Radish? Ye Olde Salt Shoppe? Pectin House? Or do these all exist already?
I remember seeing a news story a while ago about a specialty salt store in NYC that sold all sorts of special salts – many costing a small fortune – and how these salt connoiseurs are becoming a thing. So, yes, Ye Old Salt Shoppe probably does exist. But, I also wonder about these narrow scope markets and I’m probably a gullible enough foodie wannabe to be a good target for such craziness. I do love olive oil and balsamic vinegar…
These olive oil tasting joints have popping up in resort towns for a while. There’s one in Blue Ridge, and I saw several in Florida spots like Dunedin last year. I just wish somebody would open up a good cheese shop here in Decatur.
Stop in and let her know! If there’s enough demand, I think the shop will diversify towards what we want….
I have been a frequent customer of the shop in Blue Ridge, and from what I understand, our new shop here has the same supplier. While I love the oils and vinegars, I commented to the owner that she might add breads, cheeses, pastas and perhaps “partner” with Sawickis … I would love a place I go to often, not just when I want a special oil/vinegar.
I got the feeling she is open to suggestions and eager for the necessary input we can provide to help make her venture successful.

What does that have to do with this new, unique, business opening?
+1

Please don’t hijack this topic. your discussion is entirely irrelevant and belongs somewhere else.
Careful, Steve. I already got a timeout for pointing that out
Huh?
Um, I’m excited about the olive oil place, though!
I have the distinct feeling that a Rubicon has been crossed but couldn’t begin to name or describe it.

Decatur: We’re no Portland, but totally Portlandia!

Bread and olive oil. Things that make my middle section multiply, and life enjoyable.
I’m LOLing at this so hard I almost can’t type…where’s an emoticon for “choking with laughter” when you need it?!?
It’s a slippery subject.
