Decatur Police Share Burglary Prevention Video

    Decatur Metro | July 29, 2014 | 11:17 am

Sgt. Jennifer Ross sent along this “burglary prevention video” put together by Decatur Police.

“The video is a condensed version of the Burglary Prevention Presentation we hosted in April with an overview of current trends and methods seen in Decatur, tips from a former burglar to help you make your home a less desirable target and a look at what products and methods are available to reinforce common entry points to your home.”, according to Sgt. Ross.

Great video. Which reminds me.. I can’t even get my windows open. Generations of paint..
Not that it’s a proffered method around here but it doesn’t cover bump keys and an attack on the lock itself.
I use Abloy locks which locks the deadbolt from both sides and requires a special key that can’t be replicated.

I liked the door reinforcement demo. More DIY than I had thought it might be.

I wanted to give a plug for Duncan Cottrel who is in the video talking about door security. He did an audit of our house and we were really happy with his security review and recommendations.

As a result we put the anti-shatter film on some door windows and re-enforced our exterior doors.

It is nice of him to do that video with the DPD.
