Have there been any mentions about what might be going here in the retail spaces?

      Let’s all speculate!

One space is supposed to be a natural health food organic kind of grocery.

        Sprouts?

The anchor is supposed to be some sort of “natural grocery,” (not Whole Foods, and don’t even think about mentioning a certain other grocery chain).

        Earth Fare maybe?

This is my in-laws’ favorite store in Athens…have to admit it is pretty great, and would give them another reason to come to ATL other than to visit the grandchild. Oh, and their son and daughter-in-law.

I was originally thinking Earth Fare or Fresh Market, but the last time this development came up someone mentioned that there’s a newly launched chain called Sprouts that apparently Fuqua has been talking up elsewhere, so maybe that’s what they intend to drop in there.

If so, this makes me concerned for the future of Rainbow Grocery (long-time customer).

Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee let one place be a Caribou Coffee. Miss my Toco Hills Caribou.

Sorry to break the news, but Caribou has officially exited the Georgia market (and several others). They’re only sticking it out in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

          Still one in Peachtree Center.

Hope they aren’t stocking green bananas.

              ? I’m missing something…..

It’s the old joke. Man goes to the doctor who tells him he is going to die. Man asks, “how long do I have”? Doc says, “Don’t buy any green bananas.”

Some of the Georgia Caribou locations were supposed to become Peet’s Coffee & Tea locations, which I am axiously awaiting. It would be great if a location landed int his development.

I wish but I doubt it. I called them when the Druid Hills location closed and asked if it was worth keeping the auto-refill function activated on my Caribou card. They admitted probably not. I don’t think they trimmed that store because it wasn’t profitable–it was always hopping–but because they needed some massive across-the-board resizing for some financial reason.

I heard* the Pink Pony might be looking for a new location…

*I did not, in fact, hear this.

Oh gawd, please, a Trader Joe’s! Please, please, please!! We SO need a Trader Joe’s. I wonder if they have ever considered Decatur. It would be a perfect fit!

      Come on, Trader Joe’s!

Full disclosure: I am not a Trader Joe’s employee, nor do I have a financial interest in Trader Joe’s. In fact, I don’t even shop at Trader Joe’s. And I really don’t care about Trader Joe’s. I just really REALLY wanted to see if I could mention Trader Joe’s eight times in one post. Score!

      • Bob Simkins says:

Trader Joe’s usually lets Whole Foods do the market research, and then they follow nearby.

Don’t see the sense of cutting that many trees to sell some coffee and bean sprouts.
