Best Dinner Party Gift for the Money
Decatur Metro | July 2, 2013Well, we lost most of the day to a server issue, but I might as well get one of these up while there’s still time!
What do you like to give/receive from your guests when you host a dinner party? Maybe “gift” isn’t the best word. I’m talking along the lines of wine, beer (growler?), side, dessert, etc.

If we discuss a specific contribution such as bread or dessert, then I like for them to bring what they’re assigned! Otherwise, my favorite thing is fresh flowers. Nothing elaborate, the simplest bunch from the grocery store will do. (And love it if they’re cut from the person’s yard.)
I like it when they bring their kids. That way, we can tell our kids to go out and play and leave the adults alone.
I also like when they bring anything chocolate (cake, brownies, cupcakes etc.). They can keep the wine at home.
Kids is a good one!
I never get invited to dinner parties. And I have no idea why.
Do you ever throw one?
Most likely guests at your parties are intimidated by your awesome and inventive gourmet cooking and fear if they invited you to their house for dinner, you might be silently critical of their culinary performance.
A growler of beer is still probably enough of a novelty around here to be an interesting gift. And the hosts can keep the bottle for future use. I gave a couple of these last year at modest get togethers , and very few people had seen one before. Certainly more common now.
wine, a side dish, flowers . . . whatever. the most important thing at a party is good conversation.
bring something interesting to say or discuss and/or be willing to engage in someone else’s topic.

Under garments for your wine bottles, of course:

Sorry for potential repost. Had to reset my email address.
When assigned desert, a pint of Morrelli’s salted caramel is always a hit.
A box of pecans from Greene’s…
After reading subsequent DM posts, perhaps a Glock would be a particularly welcome dinner gift.
