Rep. Oliver Files Bill For Druid Hills / Briarcliff Cityhood

State Rep. Mary Margaret Oliver filed a bill in the state legislature Monday that she said allows residents in the Druid Hills and Briarcliff areas to discuss and study cityhood over the next year – the first official step toward creating a new city.
Oliver’s bill, HB 665, does not include a map of a proposed city, and it’s short – about two sentences. It does not name a specific area, including Druid Hills, and says it intends only to create a city in DeKalb County.

As I live near Atlanta I’d rather get annexed by the city. It is not cheap to start up and maintain a new town.
Not cheap, indeed. Both Dunwoody and Sandy Springs immediately started running speed traps on 400 and 285. Maybe this new entity would wind up being the best traffic calming measure ever! I’m thinking N. Druid Hills Rd., Lavista, maybe pieces of I-85…
I’m for anything that will calm/reduce traffic on North Druid Hills Rd.
It’s tragically hilarious that you think anything can improve traffic on NDH.
Put a cop on Clairmont just south of the NDH intersection everyday for 4 hours. Ticket every car that runs the stop sign turning right onto Clairmont. You can fund the whole damn city with that revenue.
Unfortunately, I have already made my contribution to that particular revenue stream!
Um, you can turn right on red there, right? You just have to come to a complete stop at the stop sign, right? Just making sure I’m not following Bob’s example….
Next time you’re at the light light at NDH heading north on Clairmont, watch that stop sign. One in fifty cars will actually come to a complete stop. This is not an exaggeration. The only time you are sure to see someone come to a complete stop is when cars heading south on Clairmont are in the way. Even then, you are likely to see someone speeding up to blow through the sign to beat the oncoming traffic. I really don’t understand why DKPD doesn’t have a motorcycle cop posted there full time.
One would hope it’s because they’re out addressing real crimes as opposed to petty traffic offenses. That stop sign used to be a yield, if I recall correctly, and it was just fine as it was.
Dem, I think we get the traffic measures that we earn.
