Love the idea of a restaurant in that Avondale building. Just concerned that the owners plan to lease rather than buy the space. Does Avondale really want to encourage restaurant renters?

    I know. I’ll be going now…

Very few small businesses own their space, especially food service. Oakhurst Realty Partners, who recent bought the building, are good local folks who are committed to and involved in the community.

I think the restaurant is going into the Tudor Building on the corner opposite the buildings purchased by Oakhurst Realty Partners – next to the Second Life thrift shop. The Patch article photo shows the building that used to house an old print shop and hair salon.

I’m still trying to get a mental image of what a “cross between Greek and Southern” would look like.

Are these the same Pallookaville folks as do the corn dog food truck?

Article says they own ParkGrounds in Reynoldstown. Love that place, v. excited about this.

Yes, this is the same fellow who owns the Starlight and the totally excellent corn dog food truck. Enjoyed his corn dogs at this past summer’s Avondale Art-B-Q which was just one big street party, with art and corn dogs.

A City of Medlock? Hmm, this new city business is really taking off. I’m not going to be surprised if someone proposes a City of Suburban Plaza.

More importantly, LOVE those sharks socks. But the knitting looks beyond my skills. Notice to handcrafters in Decatur–if you make these, I will buy. Just set aside 3 pair for me right now–one child size and two adult.

City of Medlock. White flight without moving.

        Why single out Medlock?

        • FM Fats says:
          December 6, 2012 at 12:56 pm

Indeed. Sandy Springs. Brookhaven. John’s Creek. Milton. Dunwoody. SSDD.

Medlock is nowhere close to having a tax base to support cityhood. Maybe in the ’80s when all the car deaslerships were thriving, but now, no way. The thought of it is laughable.

If you actually check the link, it’s for a meeting being organized by (the imminent City of) Briarcliff Woods East Neighborhood Association.

I guess everybody recognized a good concept. If someone wants to do a Decatur-version, they could do Coyote Bite 3D socks.

          Leg-hold socks are do-able.

The unincorporated areas of north DeKalb, including Medlock, Druid Hills, the Northlake area, and Lakeside are looking to form a city ahead of being sucked into the option killing City of DeKalb which will just be the corrupt, inept County of DeKalb renamed.
It’s not so much white flight as it is flight from the ridicuously inept financial shenanigans of the county and eventually a withdrawal from the corrupt school system.

This is sort of how I understood Decatur’s proposed annexation areas. I know that many folks are pissed about the apparent money grab. And I understand that. But I guess I just saw it as Decatur’s attempt to get while the gettin’s good.

City of DeKalb is likely coming. Or City of Medlock. Or City of Briarcliff Woods. Or whatever. And then there will be no further opportunities for COD to expand its tax base by annexation. So let’s do it while we can. The whole process moved fairly quickly, no?

Whether the money grab is right or wrong, it sounds to me like Decatur felt it needed to act on the annexation of the commercial properties now or be foreclosed from the opportunity forever.

“City of DeKalb is likely coming. Or City of Medlock. Or City of Briarcliff Woods. Or whatever.”

What is likely coming are lawsuits and Justice Dept. probes.

DOJ probes into what? Corruption in DeKalb County? Corruption in the rush to make new cities?
