Maxim Barbers Replaces Axiom Salon
Decatur Metro | June 2, 2012Billy wrote in back in mid-May to tell us of plans for the old Axiom Hair Salon space in the Renaissance building on East Ponce.
I spoke with Diane, one of the barbers at Axiom, and she told me she has bought the store from the owner of Axiom and on June 1 will switch it to be called Maxim Barbers. It will provide the same services. She was very clear it is a barber shop, and women are more than welcome, but it is not a salon. It will basically be the same but she is the owner.
Yesterday, he was good enough to follow up with this photograph of the new sign. Thanks Billy!

Good Luck Diane!
Thanks Ed!
My husband and son were thrilled to hear your news! We wish you all the success. They’ll be in soon for another great haircut from you!
Just for the record, the Diane with the pretty blue X pattern isn’t me. She’s probably far nicer and better behaved.
will Dennis still be cutting hair there as well? congrats!
Dennis recently accepted a job in the corporate world, but will be filling in from time to time. I will miss him but am happy for his good fortune.
Do you think they will do straight razor leg shaving? I’d sign up for that.
Yeah, I wish there was somewhere that did straight razor beard shaves. I got spoiled by having a State Street barber up in Boston. There are few things more relaxing than putting your life into the hands of someone with a sharp implement and no medical training.
Best of luck, Diane! If you saw that first ridiculous post before DM wisely removed it, ignore the knee-jerk haters and you will be much better off.
That said, please don’t take this as criticism or hating, especially since my opinion about anything to do with hair maintenance and styling is obviously not worth the ether it is floated upon, but I do have one huge nit to pick about your signage. The barber poles on the sign are fine. The red, white and blue is a good, classic barber shop look. However, where I’m from, I’m pretty sure it’s both illegal and immoral to call yourself a barber shop without an actual spinning pole out front! Get an honest-to-goodness barber’s pole up there and I’ll even let you take a stab at fixing up my own self-buzzed head!
What in the heck could someone have to say bad about opening a barber shop?
You wouldn’t believe me if I told you.
I hate that I missed that.
It was rude and especially since it was the very first comment in the thread it made it feel like a bitch slap. That said, I don’t think it was worth deleting and it may not have been if it were buried in the middle of things instead of being the #1 comment. The comment basically stated that the sign itself may not be the most beautiful one in the world, and he may have had a point. I’ll still get my hair cut there!!
