New Boutique Opening in the Renaissance Building

    Decatur Metro | May 10, 2012 | 8:34 am

Billy sends along this pic of a sign in the door of one of the spaces in the Renaissance Building for a new boutique where the fair trade, environmentally friendly shop used to be.

Good luck to the new store. They may well have found a retail niche that needed to be filled in Decatur.

No kidding! Every other ladies clothing store in Decatur seems to think only stick people need clothes!

Hey, that’s a slight us Decaturettes resent! Who you calling curvy?

Actually, there used to be be a store next to Seventeen Steps that sold beautiful clothes for “plus” sized women–Anna’s Wardrobe. I went in there once in my pre-children skinny body and was stared at until I realized that the sizes did not go down far enough for me. Don’t know why they closed—maybe women like to be called “curvy” not “plus”.

To those of you with female partners: do not, I repeat, do not, send a link to this piece extolling this as “good news.” FMFats may, or may not, be correct that this was a niche in these parts that needed filling. But if it is, surely YOUR partner is not part of the target market audience. At least you wouldn’t want to tell her that.

When I told some of my co-workers this morning that a plus sized boutique is opening in Decatur, one of the women exclaimed, “Hallelujah!”.

I gotcha there, FMF, but I betcha didn’t say something like, “a plus sized shop is opening, that should be great for you, aren’t you excited?” Not to put non-words in your mouth – I could be wrong.

Agree that this is an eggshell situation. I would not give anyone a gift certificate for Twelve24 unless she specifically requested it.

It was kind of a general announcement to a small crowd of women of various sizes. I’m no fool.

      *ahem*

I would LOVE to get a gift certificate to this place! And I would happily buy them for any of my friends. :)

Hallelujah! I would love a gift certificate from this store! Hubby told me about this opening after reading about it here on DM (no eggshells here) :)

I have been amazed by their absolute power and lack of accountability over the years. The only other entities that seem to rival them are the railroads, the White House Office of Management and Budget, and maybe the CIA.

Hmmm, never heard anyone make *this* criticism about curvy chicks before 😉

Whoops. This belongs under GDOT thread. Curvy chicks are evidently powerful, proud stuff too from what I see. I’m going to stop worrying about losing my pregnancy pounds all these years later.

Oh. Now I get it. I thought they were going to be open all night 12 days of the week.

I think women with some meat on their bones are the hottest. This place may brighten my Decatur streetscape.

How ’bout apparel for crooked women?

I’m excited about this! I wouldn’t be offended if my husband told me about that story, but let’s face it, I am well in the middle of that size range so there’s no pretending I wear a single-digit size.

I can’t wait to see what they offer. The one thing that’s tough about plus sized stores (both national chain and boutique) is that because there are a lot fewer of these stores, it’s hard to make everyone happen. Like, if it’s “street wear,” that’s not my style so I probably wouldn’t find much there. Some stores skew to a more matronly audience so it’s tough to shop in a store like that and feel stylish. My personal dream would be a plus-sized H&M-type store, but we’ll see. And being a boutique I’m guessing that the prices won’t be cheap, either. We’ll see. Either way, I can’t wait to see what they have to offer!
