Guess who was out eating at 246 last night?  Mike Wolfe from American Pickers…did not get a picture with him but did tell him I like the show.

      Um. Who?

He has a show on the History Channel called American Pickers. Him and his associate Frank Fritz drive around the countryside, throughout the entire eastern part of the country really, to find collectors and hoarders who are willing to let them sift through all their “junk” – if they find anything they want they negotiate on a price to buy the item. Afterwards, the stuff they buy is cleaned up and resold for a profit. The company that Mike Wolfe owns that is the feature of the program is Antique Archeology.

I heard also that his van that he drives in the show was seen parked outside the former antiques showroom in the East Atlanta Village. It’s kinda weird he was there as it has since shutdown and is in the process of renovation to become a gastropub.
In a past episode him and his sidekick stopped into Kudzu Antiques to have some clay jugs appraised – the vender that appraised them went on to buy all of them before they left!
Looking forward to seeing the episode from this recent visit.

      Um, overpaid vain celebrities? Boring.

And you know either of these things how?

Perhaps Bradley is his hairdresser or his accountant?

Love the show or hate it – I would hardly call Mike Wolfe or especially Frank Fritz vain – quite the opposite really, but whatever, everyone has an opinion.

I dig the show. Something the whole family likes to watch together. And I have a crush on Mike.

With ya on that crush. I like that he can walk in a room full of expensive old things and get excited by the toy items. Anyone who isn’t too uptight, to let their inner big kid loose is alright with me. It’s Slinky, it’s Slinky…

I watch the show occasionally, and they seem like nice guys, but aren’t there bigger names in and out of Decatur on a regular basis? Hell, George Buckley was at 246 two weeks ago, and no writeup on him?

(BTW – apparently he had the carbonara, and said it was delicious.)

        Never heard of him.

What? Never heard of George Buckley?! But G Buck is so famous ’round these parts.

Mike and Frank are the furthest from overpaid, vain celebrities. They did it for a living way before it was ever turned into a show. My 7-year-old son loves the show and my husband and I enjoy it too.

@bradley- those “overpaid” celebs are putting money into our economy and supporting local eateries! Stop complaining!

Damn! Love that show! The one night I’m not in Decatur!

    9. Allen says:

Did you sell him something to break the ice? LOL

I must admit, I enjoy the show too. But for the life of me I don’t see how they make a living doing what they do. I guess you can live cheap in Iowa.

One of the things I love about this city, that makes it feel like a real small town. A show that many people have never heard of, and a “star” that almost noone has heard of on that show eats at a local place and people are all aflutter!

I think I’ll pop on dinner at 246 next time he’s in town!

I don’t think these basic cable reality folks really make a lot of money.

Oh wow… my 12 y.o. daughter WORSHIPS this guy. She’s seen every one of his shows and is obsessed with weird antiques. She freaked when she saw the show with him at Kudzu getting ceramic jugs appraised. I think she will end up being a picker when she grows up.

I do worry about how one pays the bills as a picker. I just don’t see the math when I watch the show. I adore the guys though – one of my favorite shows too.

I guess she will be living on my living room couch for most of her adult life. She can pay me back by letting me ride along on picks.

Well, as preteens go, it beats worshiping Justin Bieber or Britney I guess.

Always love these predictable anti-everything knee-jerk reactions.

      Scott: “I like your show!”

      Mike Wolfe: “WHAT?”

Scott: (shouts) “I SAID I LIKE YOUR SHOW!”

      Mike Wolfe: “WHAT?”

Scott: (shouts louder) “I LIKE YOUR SHOW!”

      Mike Wolfe: “WHAT?”

Scott: (shouts even louder and uses made-up sign language) “I SAID…I… LIKE…YOUR…SHOW!”

      Mike Wolfe: “WHAT?”

      ; -)
