Rockit Boutique on Decatur Square Closes

    Decatur Metro | October 25, 2011

    Leigh writes in…

Hey there – do you (or any of the readers) know what happened to Rockit Boutique on the Square?? Went by there this morning, and the store was empty!! I still had a few dresses to buy. No indication of them moving, so I assume they closed shop. Bummer.

Decatur city staff confirms that the boutique closed quietly about a week ago.

Sorry to hear it. Also sorry that my primary recollection of this place was its involvement in the Taste of Decatur debacle a couple years back. But I also know a couple of folks who were quite enamored of the shop.

This, too, was my only interaction with the place.

Somehow I missed even noticing this place, never mind going in.

Obviously, you were not the only one.

Wife bought a couple things there this summer. Was kind of a cool little store and we actually commented that they should be able to do even better with Cakes and Ale helping out that section.

No, I never bought from them. I’m not really their demographic. But they carried a great tee shirt line from outofprintclothing.com. They were tee shirts emblazoned with old cover art from classic books. The Catcher in the Rye and The Great Gatsby were especially wonderful. I’m sorry to see them go.

First, The Angel Pub, then Crescent Moon, then Rocket 88, then Rockit…. Blue Moon Designs and Ducks Cosmic Kitchen need to stay on their toes!

Cath and I shopped at Rockit as often as we could. Their prices were very reasonable, and though the selection was small, it was well chosen.
We are so sorry to see it close. Owners Jay and Michael are great guys!

Jay is a great guy. He actually used to run Vibes Music that was in that space previously. I’ve known him for 20 years. I wish him the best going forward…
