East Lake Drive Home Broken Into Around Lunch Today

[My house] It was broken into today – sometime before lunch time. Thankfully all the person got was our TV – we don’t have much else. We recently moved from East Point because our house there was broken into four times.
We know that Oakhurst is a great place and we chose to move here because of the low crime rate and family friendly enviroment – and we suspect that this may be isolated to just us. Especially since the Decatur Police said that no one else was broken into today. We live on East Lake Drive at the corner of East Lake and Spring.
The Decatur Police were wonderful and took several fingerprint samples. The person also went thorough my son’s room (he’s 4 – not much he can find in there) and our liquor cabinet – too bad all they found was 7 year old wine from World Market. We are hoping the finger prints will lead to something. But, if you could, please let your readers to be aware of this so that they can be on the look out for anything suspicious or out of the ordinary around them.

oh gosh, such a visible and well traveled area too! I was supposed to walk past your house around 11.45am today but changed my schedule and went by at around 2.45pm instead. Wish I could have seen something for you… Well, on second thoughts it would have been pretty awful to have seen anything…
I just remembered that someone told me their neighbor just a few houses closer to the ATL city limits than you had their bicycles stolen from their shed not too long ago….
Go look in the bushes or semi-wooded areas around your home. Thieves sometimes “park” their booty until nightfall…
This was an issue a while back in East Lake – still pops up from time to time when known thieives are released from DeKalb jail…
That happened to us once with bikes stolen off of the top of a car parked at the old Northlake Mall Movie Theater. We found the bikes hidden behind a dumpster. I guess the thieves wanted to catch a movie or dinner before taking off!
Well, go look in the bushes…with an armed police officer!
From what I understand from the Chelsea Heights listserve, there was a break-in on Ridley Circle today. Apparently, someone saw a male climb out a neighbor’s back window and called 911. The thief was approached by the police and he dropped his backpack and ran. The stolen items were recovered, but I don’t know if the caught the guy or not.
Interesting. On the way back from the Y around noon there were a couple of squad cars (one Decatur, one DeKalb) parked on Westchester right where it intersects with Scott. Must be related…
Sorry this happened to you and your family and glad as well that they only grabbed the TV. That most likely was their main target anyhow.
Thank you everyone for your support and suggestions. My husband is out looking around for our TV. We also found that our spare key to our car was stolen – hope they don’t come back for our car before we can get the fob code changed. Ugh – what a day.
That answers some questions I had earlier about police in my neighborhood. I live on Maediris Dr. and there was a lot of police here for a bit.
We had our antique metal gliders stolen off our front porch near this burglary 3 or 4 years ago. My husband decided to try and track them. He found them later that day at Kudzu. He also managed to get the thief arrested and the guy recently went on a real live trial for this!
Sadly, though I have lived in Decatur mostly since 1989, I just had to look up Maediris Dr.
I need to get out more.
Jill, do you have a daughter at Suburban Nursery? If so, we should talk. So sorry for the break in I know how awful that can be.
Elizabeth
My kids both go to Suburban Nursery – my little girl will be 2 and by son will be 4 – both in a few months.
My email address is [email protected]
I have known 5 different people who, just after they moved into a new house, got their house broken into. This has been in various parts of the area – Decatur, Stone Mtn, Lawrenceville, Mabelton, Marietta.
Thieves are a watching.
hmm, I wonder if any of them used the same moving company?
Moving companies along with roofers are the worst, or close to it, industries according to BBB. Many are operating illegally (unregistered with the PSC) so I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a connection.
there is some question on the oakhurst yahoo group that another possible break-in occurred somewhere on oakview rd yesterday afternoon…can anyone confirm that?
Annie – when the police were at our house yesterday we did over hear a call come through on their radio about something on Oakview – but the officer wouldn’t give us any details. We suspect that it was also a home robbery.
