Some Emory Prank Chickens Rescued, Fate of Others Unknown
Decatur Metro | April 29, 2011 | 9:51 amAllison posted this video on YouTube yesterday. Subsequently, this note was posted on the Oakhurst Message Board…
This year’s Senior prank at Emory was to unleash a flock of chickens and chicks in our library. Comical, but there are chickens that need homes or they may be put down.
Around 10 left at Dekalb Animal Control: 404-294-2996. The address is 845 Camp Rd., Decatur, 30032.
Anyone know if the other 10 were ever retrieved?

The first thing I thought when I saw this story, was I hope the students would have helped clean up the poo from this prank if that were an issue. Chickens aren’t housebroken.
But this kind of puts a different spin on it. Chickens for food is one thing, but putting them down for no other purpose than a prank, doesn’t sit well with me. Hopefully the chicken coop folks were able to assist.
I believe she is going back on Sat am to rescue the last 10. I think she’s found homes for all of them.
Are they layers or fryers…?
No, the students certainly didn’t think of any of the consequences and a pretty large section of carpeting in the library had to be replaced today (not cheap for such fast service). So, while the “idea” of leaving a bunch of chickens in a library might seem funny, the consequences are costly…not to mention the amount of staff time yesterday spent dealing with this.
As of this morning, all the birds taken from the Woodruff library have all been placed except the rooster, and I have identified someone who can care for him. Planning to go back tomorrow morning to get him if he’s still there!
By the way, we’re naming the three we are keeping Dooley, Charlotte Bronte, and Dorothy Sayers (literary names, since they came from the library).
Allison,
Thank you for rescuing the baby chicks !!
Should have used goats instead
Or… better yet, honey badgers.
honey badger don’t care, honey badger just take what it wants…
It might’ve be much funnier if the chickens had been “released” in a few students’ BMW/Benz/Audi/Lexus.
Now _that_ would have been funny.
+1
I wonder if the students who put the chickens in the library, if caught, would face the same harsh punishment as the students who were arrested monday evening on campus for peacefully demonstrating, who had to spend the night in jail and will likely face criminal prosecution. Probably not.
