Atlanta’s Hop City Already Selling Growlers in the Metro
Decatur Metro | April 15, 2011As of 5pm yesterday!
While Decatur beer retailers are still prepping to begin selling growlers to the general public, it looks like Atlanta’s Hop City was the first out of the gate in the Atlanta metropolitan area (Athens’ The Beer Growler was first in the state), now offering 16 rotating taps of draft beer.
The AJC’s Drink blog reported a partial list of intial draft options yesterday:
Jailhouse Breakout Stout; Port Mongo Double IPA; Red Brick Dog Days and 16th Anniversary; Terrapin Moo-Hoo and Rye Squared; Victory Braumeister Pils and Donnybrook Stout; Wild Heaven Invocation and Ode To Mercy.
Now that it seems like growlers are inevitable, what draft beers are you hopping (har har) to see on your kitchen counter soon? I need to start a list!

Got by there yesterday about 8pm. The staff said that the line started forming at 4:30 and that we had just missed that initial group clearing out. They are currently only filling “Hop City” branded bottles ($5 each); we have a few from other breweries that will have to stay on the shelf for now. Growlers of Victory Braumeister and Sweetwater IPA chilling in the fridge for this weekend’s house guests.
yawn . . .
I’m happy about this, but I hope Hop City, Ale Yeah!, and everyone else looking to sell growlers get over the store-branded bottle requirement quickly. There’s no way I’m going to keep an empty bottle or two around from multiple stores.
What are they charging to fill the growlers?
Market prices for the beers. Sweetwater IPA was $6.99, Victory was ~$11. They have 16 rotating taps. One of the taps had some rare Belgian that was pretty expensive.
Get over your own brand labeled bottles! I’m not going to buy a growler until this issue is dropped!
