    Black Friday Deals in Decatur?

    Decatur Metro | November 23, 2010 | 9:18 am

So as many of you already know, I’ve had to pull away from unrestricted free advertising on DM – even in comments – in recent years as I try to establish a business model for the site, but every once in a while we still have to open the flood gates and give our great local businesses a bit of free love!

Sure the DM comments section isn’t a Black Friday flyer in the AJC, but hey it’s somethin’!

So, let’s hear it local businesses.  What deals are you planning for post-turkey day?

Here’s the email I just got from Decatur CD. I want to know more about this Atlanta Human Society:

      Hey there,

First of all, we’d like to say thanks to you, loyal customer. Thanks for making a point to shop at Decatur CD. Thanks for supporting any and all local businesses, really. (Relatedly, did you hear that this Saturday is the first ever Small Business Saturday? We love it!) Thanks for reading this e-mail week after week. Thanks for stopping by the store, having a beer and regaling us with stories. Thanks for being you.

Indeed, Thanksgiving is coming up, and though we’ll be closed on the big day, you know we’ll be back at it on Black Friday, and we’re celebrating in a handful of totally awesome ways…

      1. Starting Friday, we’ll have a charity compilation featuring the likes of Indigo Girls, Kingsized, Yacht Rock Revue, Oryx + Crake (featuring Richard Parsons) Francine Reed, Soulphonics and more. The CD has 12 tracks total, is $12 flat and all of the proceeds go to the Atlanta Human Society. Come get it (on Friday)!

      2. In addition to the usual releases this week (see below), Black Friday brings a mini Record Store Day of sorts with all kinds of awesome stuff. Here’s just a sampling: Cee Lo (12″ single), Grinderman (12″ single), U2 (live 12″), George Harrison (3LP All Things), Tom Petty (7″), Bob Dylan (7″), Bruce Springsteen (7″), Rocky Erickson (DVD), Sharon Jones (7″ box set), Soundgarden (7″), Dr. Dog (7″), Killing Joke (2CD deluxe), Black Crowes (live 10″), Drive-By Truckers (10″), Black Keys (2LP), Iron & Wine (12″/CD single), Gaslight Anthem (7″), Frank Sinatra (Christmas LP), KT Tunstall (CD EP), MGMT (7″), Cage the Elephant (7″), The Doors (180 gram 12″), Pantera (LP reissue), The Sword (12″ picture disc), Monster Magnet (CD). Phew! Now, as with normal Record Store Day releases, these are limited, so show up early to get what you want!

      3. Holiday music! You want it? It’ll be out Friday.

      4. Beer! As usual, we’ll have some.

See? We told you we know how to celebrate. We’ll see you Friday, then. Enjoy the holiday, folks, and remember to be thankful!
