Does anyone know what is going on with Trackside Tavern and Fifth Earl? The fire was 10 months ago. And I have not seen ANY work being done. Is this an insurance problem or a lousy landlord problem?
Hey Left Wing, I sent an email to one of the 5th Earl owners. I’ll let you know if I hear back.
Left Wing: I (and the landlord) are dedicated to bringing Trackside Tavern back as soon as possible. He and I have spoken numerous times since the fire – in fact, we are using the same architect. During the four years I owned Trackside I have had a good relationship with the landlord and nothing has changed. This was my first experience with a destructive fire and I learned that things move slowly due to all the entities involved in the destruction and re-construction: insurance adjustors, municipal and private inspectors, structural engineers, utility companies, city zoning and planning folks, etc. It appears that the rest of the walls around Trackside will have to come down – because of their age and damage from fire, water, and the elements, they are no longer able to support a roof up to the current building codes. The landlord plans to re-build the 3 sections of the building that were Trackside as close as possible to the same shape, size, and appearance as they were before the fire. I have two contractors (who I have known for a long time and were Trackside regulars) who will build out the inside once the structure is re-built. Even thought the old walls will be gone, it will still look and feel like Trackside when it is finished and it will still be located on Trackside’s “hallowed ground”. I wish it was ready today but I understand all that has to happen. Believe me, I miss my favorite bar as much as anyone – actually, I miss it more as a patron than as the owner. Keep the faith and look forward to a grand re-opening like Decatur has never seen!
DM: Congrats on your successful debate this week! How many people joined in? Well done!
Thanks Trudy! Almost 200 people tuned into the debate live and around 300 have checked it out in “replay” mode thus far.
Judging by the transcript, it was rgeat: informative, interesting, and most educational (even in print conversation, one gets a sense of the candidates as people that doesn’t come across in website statements/slogans). Having heedlessly allowed our anti-virus software to get out of date, I’m now dealing with reconstructing our home machine’s innards– so I missed out on the live-time event. But I think I speak for a great many folks when I say “Kudos” to you, DM, and thanks for all the great work that you put into the awesomeness that is Decatur Metro (the blog, that is)!
“Great”, that is…sheesh, my typing gets worse every day.
We need to have our house appraised for a refi. Any suggestions for a good honest appraiser?
check with oyur bank or lender, as regulations are changing by the day – most require that the lender now order the appraisal – in an effort to prevent fraud.
J-Lo, I’m sure he has a great personality, but I really think you could’ve done better than Marc Anthony.
(Ok, sorry– couldn’t help myself!)
No, I don’t think she could. She’s the one without a personality!
Two things for today.
First, I can’t imagine that you’ll find a better garage than Quantum Mechanics (on Talley Street). Those young men are friendly, fast and focused on their customers. Their shop is neat and tidy. And they love cars.
Second, why does the little Kroger smell like a foot?
Squirrel head- maybe because of all the “foot traffic” !
PACHALAFAKA, PACHALAFAKA THEY WHISPER IT ALL OVER TURKEY PACHALAFAKA, PACHALAFAKA IT SOUNDS SO ROMANTIC AND PERKY.
Rest in peace, Soupy Sales. There’s pie in heaven tonight.
