Detail Your Drunken Love of the Decatur Beer Festival
Decatur Metro | October 17, 2009 | 12:18 pmYeah, unfortunately no firsthand reports by me this year, but you all are more than welcome to write up your own post-fest comments and give us colorful, intoxicated recaps.
My sober thanks in advance to all.
OMG– we and 6 of our friends had THE most amazing time! Despite the drizzly weather, everyone was out in force with the spirit of love (& drunkenesss)! All the vendors were pouring generously, giving away posters, hats & t-shirts galore (my party scored many freebies), & everyone seemed so laid-back and relaxed (not to mention well-lubricated)… Best DBF EVER!!!!
There was plenty of good beer. I did not see anything that was unusual or especially hard to find. Sierra Nevada may be the exception, with the Harvest and Estate brews being especially good. I did the full five hours with many others who were having a good time. I did not mind the weather, it never rained hard enough to be a bother. King Sized is a great band, glad to see them again.
You know you are having a great time when King Sized rocks a Styx song and more than half the crowd is singing their asses off right along with you. Oh, the beer was mostly good too.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I don’t usually spend Saturday afternoons belting out Styx lyrics that I didn’t even know I knew. Without a doubt, the most memorable moment of the day.
Can you imagine how much alcohol is required to turn the square into a karaoke bar? The sheer scale of it boggles the mind.
I’m still singing, “Come Sail Away,” hell, my kids are singing it now. That was a great moment indeed.
Isn’t that the song that makes Cartman get funky? You scare me, Gibbets.
I think Cartman has embiggened a great number of songs, but I haven’t heard his version yet.
Seriously, you had to be there–it was like two and half minutes of Decatur’s own cheesy Woodstock.
Have you all forgotten King Sized’s version of My Heart Will Go On? Don’t get me wrong, Come Sail Away was pretty good, but seeing a bunch of drunk people (myself included) sing Celine Dion was the icing on the cake.
No, no that was pretty good, but we were spent after Sailing and had put out our jibs, tack, and get refills–also I did dig the Metallica they threw on the end.
Kingsized’s mash up of Celine Dion & Metallica was epic. And, perhaps more importantly, was done early enough in the day for most attendees to have a clear memory of it. Even though the sun came out late in the afternoon, that part of the day still seems a bit foggy to me.
And yes, Cartman’s version of the Styx classic is, itself, a classic.
