Very sad, a tragedy for Decatur

What is a teen club? This one doesn’t sound like a safe place for a teen to be.

This appears to be a branch of a rather large dance studio with a patronage of over 400 on Montreal in Tucker Ga, Chynes Dance Studio. The Memorial Drive branch is named named Club Longstar, probably opened in April. “Teen clubs are usually sponsored by nonprofits, schools, or churches. It would be interesting to know the nature of this club. It is located between two well established shopping centers and nearby homes are large, well maintained, and before the meltdown in the 200,000 price bracket.

Thanks for the info. The term “teen club” is new to me so this was my question was not judgmental but truly an inquiry as the parent of a young teen.

      Indeed, this is sad.

However, I remember reading or remembering that this incident happened in the early morning hours between something like 2-3AM.

Is that true? If so, what is a high school sophomore doing out that late?

Please, don’t pass judgement., just pray for his family. I know he’s not the only one to sneak or leave the house to go to a party or club. Just watch over your kids and talk to them about safety and who they hang with.

AJC reports he has two siblings at DHS.

Mikel was a good kid. His family really needs our prayers. As one of his former teachers, I will never forget his smile and his motivation to learn. Passing judgement about this incident isn’t going to help anyone at this point. The kids at DHS all need our support right now.

Mikel was a very nice young man. He was also friends and played basketball with my son. He was working with my husband to earn money to buy a cell phone. He was very helpful to my husband and worked very hard. He had some goals that he strived to achelve. This is a tragety and a crime that should not have happened. I am very sorry for his family and friends. I know that he is in a better place.

I am sad for the family and friends. I understand that there may be an issue with funds for the burial? Has anyone heard the same. Maybe the Decatur-Dekalb Housing and Development Office
might know if and where money can be sent to help with expenses

      RIP

I go to DHS and this is one of my fellow school mates. Everyone received and e-mail yesterday and it’s such a heart breaking tragedy. Though I am only a freshmen there I feel for his family and I pray for everyone who knew him

Ok first of all i would like to say, despite what you people have to say about Mikel, what he was doing at a teen club really doesnt concern you and its not goin to bring him back so why would you even say something like that, keep those kind of comments to yourself.
Mikel was a good person, he was more than a friend to me, he meant so much to me. He wasnt perfect and he made mistakes but who doesnt. He didnt deserve it man, no matter what he done.
This is really affecting me, i never saw this coming, i know he is in a better place, but i just wish this never happened,
I love u mikel, but this is not goodbye because i know i will see him again. R.i.p
and if u didnt know him, just dont comment if u dont have nothing positive to say.
