Paideia School Building Set on Fire

    Decatur Metro | October 3, 2009

Scott D. reports that he saw a fire at Padeia this past evening and passes along the AJC link, which includes a few dramatic pics of the blaze.

The AJC reports that the fire was mostly contained to the 1920’s “Mother Goose” building, and officials suspect arson.

Very sad. Both my kids went to high school there and both were in touch with former classmates and with us last night sharing the news. This building is base for each freshman class, and home to several very beloved teachers and their work. Happily, there were no injuries, but certainly these teachers lost files, books, films, music, artwork….

Loosing the Mother Goose Building is extremely sad and unfortunate but even more upsetting is the loss of over 30 years of history, artwork, artififacts and collections of writings, music and books these incredible teachers have collected and shared with our students. Paideia is a strong and vibrant community and will turn these lemons into lemonade.

Let’s work as a community to catch the 4 kids that deliberately set this fire – reported by a witness to be 2 boys and 2 girls skateboarding in the area. If you know of this group of kids, contact the police department immediately. They need to be caught and punished for this horrible crime.

That’s just so wrong, GA. Of course, I laughed out loud, so I guess that makes me wrong too!

Anyway, my condolences to the Paideia people. I’m glad no one was hurt.

As a long time graduate of Paideia I always loved glancing over at the old Mother Goose building whenever I passed the campus. It holds so many great memories for anyone who stepped foot in the building. Hate to see it go.

I stopped by to see it first hand this morning and there is no way they will be able to salvage it. It will have to join Rainbow Terrace as just another memory on that stretch of Ponce.

Sadly, it looks like kids are responsible for this.
