Garrison Keillor To Speak at Agnes Scott in September
Decatur Metro | July 13, 2009
A little advanced warning never hurt anyone.
According to the Georgia Center for the Book, Prairie Home Companion’s Garrison Keillor will be discussing his new novel Pilgrims: A Wobegon Romance in Presser Hall at Agnes Scott College on Monday, September 28th at 7pm. And it’s free! First come, first serve.
If I’m not mistaken (UPDATE: and I am) this would mark Keillor’s first trip back to Atlanta after a bunch of drunk revelers at Chastain convinced him he would never return to Atlanta with PHC again. In fact, I think I wrote a post about it back during this blog’s infancy. Yep, here ’tis.

He spoke at the Atlanta History Center in September 2008.
Then I am mistaken! Thanks for the info!
I saw APHC at the Fox in 1998 from the second row (chairs placed on top of the platform covering the Mighty Mo well) and that was an amazing show. They need to do the show there again, or somewhere in Decatur. Also saw Keillor in a solo speaking performance in Greenville, SC a couple years ago, and he had the audience wrapped around his little finger.
He is one of the greatest humorists and storytellers and just plain awesome people of our age, and it makes me sad to think he was so poorly treated in recent trips down here. Shame.
Hope I can get into the Agnes Scott appearance!
It may be free but Keillor will draw a big crowd, even in metro Atlanta that is so the antithesis of Lake Woebegon. How does one get a ticket? Does one camp out overnight? I so want to be there!
We are so lucky to have Georgia Center for the Book right here in Decatur. Those guys do an amazing job with their program of author appearances–and it’s always all free.
Thank you Joe Davitch and Bill Starr!
I’m guessing that most if not all of the attendees at the Garrison Keillor reading will be melanin challenged.
Your point being…? (Incidentally, I’m mixed-race AND melanin-challenged; 2 of my best pals are Asian & Black, but all 3 of us love Garrison Keillor & plan to be there!)
Let’s not confuse melanin-challenged with spice-challenged. I had a group of native mid-Western ffriends who would joke about having all-white food parties– Cheese Whiz, white Wonder bread, macaroni and cheese, marshmallow salad, egg salad, mashed potatoes, milk, potato salad, vanilla pudding, oatmeal, etc.
