Twist & Scoot Victim of Smash and Grab
Decatur Metro | May 28, 2009 | 10:15 amMark wrote in earlier this morning inquiring about a police car and a smashed window down at Twist & Scoot. I was trying to be a “journalist” and get details from DPD before posting, but Rebecca wrote in with the details before I received any response.
Twist n Scoot got hit this morning at 4am with a smash and grab. They used a huge rock to get in the front door, and only took their computers.
Journalist? But you’re a mere Citizen! ;^)
I find it interesting that they took computers, not scooters, because I’ve looked at the windows there and at the other scooter store in Decatur and thought the establishments looked vulnerable. I guess thieves are not into saving gas.
Reminds me of how some folks still have this reflex fear of having sidewalks or public transportation around their homes. As though thieves are going to walk down the sidewalk, scooter away, or jump on a MARTA bus carrying a stereo system, desktop computer and monitor, or widescreen TV. They really should ban vans and pick-up trucks in their neighborhood if they’re that nervous!
Evidently a bunch of Atlanta bars got smashed up this morning as well. Coincidence?

Maybe the bandits were on scooters, and needed a computer for their hideout.
Juanchella responded to my email and essentially confirms Rebecca’s reporting…
“Someone entered the facility after shattering the front glass door with a rock and took 2 computers.”
I also found that interesting Snowflake, but am no longer surprised with these very “specific” burglaries. These are calculated moves, and they only steal what they can unload, be it blue jeans, flat-screens or PCs.
It’d be pretty difficult to quickly cart away something as large as a scooter, and S&G thieves’ biggest aim is to get away quickly with their loot.
Totally agree re: the nonsensical anti-crime arguments against sidewalks and/or public transport. I can attest that I, personally, have never witnessed anyone riding MARTA with a flatscreen, nor have I ever seen a determined thief deterred for want of a sidewalk.
It would also be harder to unload a scooter because they have serial numbers and have to be licensed somehow. Not that that’s a deterrent, since cars get stolen and they have VINs, but it doesn’t make for the quick cash that a computer or flat-screen would.
