A reader sent us a tip yesterday that Terrapin Station on Church Street – next to Java Monkey – had newspaper covering its windows.
Decaturish followed up and confirmed that the shop is closing its doors. The store opened in the former Mingei Arts space back in 2013.
Regardless of the future tenant, I hope the storefront retains its yellow color. It’s one of my favorite Decatur storefronts, just because of that!

Meanwhile, something new is going into the restaurant space at the Ice House. The paper over the windows says to look up http://www.ablequalityremodeling.com/ but I can’t find anything about it there.
Bummer. Not like I ever needed any e-hookas or Phish paraphernalia, but the folks who ran that store were good people.
Decatur just isn’t a head shop kind of town anymore. The local college ranks near the top of the “stone cold sober” list every year, and all the stoner moms and dads buy their vaporizers online.
“Decatur just isn’t a head shop kind of town anymore”
Was it ever ?
That place would have fit in better in L5P.
