    Zombies Rehab Hi-Tech Gas Station

    Decatur Metro | February 27, 2009 | 9:20 am

Scott sends in a pic of our newly redesigned Hi-Tech gas station, courtesy of Zombieland Pictures.

I gotta believe its not permanent.  What a strange property.

Interesting composition. Was this taken while Scott was actually on the run from said zombies?

I suspected the the name was just for the sake of the movie? I rarely go in this gas station (as I live the Decatur dream, and have no car), but from what I recall there’s not a whole lot of “gulpable” stuff sold in the store.

Then again, “Hi-Tech” is also not also not a very fitting name for this location

Worse than zombies, Lump. I was on the run from the angry commuters stacking up behind me on Candler. D’oh!

with ‘gulp’ in the name of the station it makes me think this station mainly caters to Yukons, Escalades and the like.

The Mrs. refuses to buy gas there because she’s convinced there’s water in it.

Now the zombies give her another excuse.

The name is a bad translation of a Chinese idiom.
Should be “Happy Sunny Refined Petroleum Being”

Found out this is just one of several film shoots in and around Atlanta this weekend. Rob Zombie is apparently in town shooting “Halloween 2.” And out in Dallas, Ga. they’re filming a mass crowd scene for “Get Low,” a comedy set in the 1930s starring Robert Duvall, Bill Murray, and Sissy Spacek.

Went to check out the shoot yesterday. I was confronted at least half a dozen times and told I couldn’t take any pictures of the production, even though I was on the public sidewalk across the street! I corrected them each time by assuring them that taking photos on public property is well within my rights.

I encourage everyone to take the time today to drop by the “Gas N Gulp” and take a few photos just to show them that Decatur is NOT communist Russia :)

Just for fun, I posted the location info on IMDB’s chat board to see if anybody would have a story about the shoot. Here’s a reply from an extra who braved the slush and cold, Monday Mar 2. Bad news – no actual zombies in the scene.

“I was in that shoot as an extra yesterday. It was an abandoned gas station that was rented out to the production company. Only one main scene was shot there and it had NO zombies. : (

“Abigail Breslin, Emma Stone and Mike White were on set and all had parts in the scene. Apparently, this was set before the zombie apocolypse, therefore no zombies. I was really hoping to either eat some brains or have mine eaten. I believe all of the zombie scenes were shot in Valdosta. BTW, it was freakin’ cold.

“Oh yeah, the movie wrapped after the last scene of the day.”

Abandoned? That will come as news to the operators of said gas station, although it does capture the station’s less than stellar state of operations.

Couldn’t believe the amount of gear and trucks there for the shoot. Entire Kroger parking lot was filled with trucks, trucks parked all up and down Ponce and in side streets. Nuts. I let my dog out in the back yard, which backs up to Commerce, and he was barking so much I half expected some production lackey to come knock on my door and ask me to shut him up.

The movie didn’t wrap that day 😉

They are shooting some other cool scenes soon. I was just told by a reliable resource-Malcom McDowell is going to be killed in Downtown Decatur. It will not bee seen from the street, but you’ll see the crews..I am a little hesitant about posting the times.

I was trying to figure out what Rob was up to and found this site.

I note that “Gas ‘n Gulp” was morphing back into “Hi-Tech” today. The painters were hard at work.
