DHS Students Participate in Close Up Day at Georgia Capitol

    Decatur Metro | March 2, 2010

DHS teacher Chris Billingsley writes in…

Georgia Close Up day one was successful- except for the lame lunch, a middle school group (Yuk- Eighth Graders!), walking in snow in flip flops, and a fussy teacher complaining about students not paying attention (These were student comments). When I returned and crashed in my classroom, a teacher came by and asked, “How did it go?” I told her, “Fine. I got everyone back alive. No one got sick and threw up. And everyone ate something for lunch (although there were a few complaints about ” no real chefs”. After thirty-three years of teaching and field trips, my expectations are not as high as in 1976.

Rep. Benfield Offers Up A Mastercard Moment

    Decatur Metro | January 24, 2010
    • Entrance fee to the Georgia Capitol: Zero dollars.
    • One very tight miniskirt: Forty dollars.
    • Letting your libido determine state funding priorities: Seven Bajillion dollars.

Reading a hilarious observation on the whole Georgia sexy lobbyist factor from your local Representative:

“The babelicious lobbyist factor has definitely diminished,” said state Rep. Stephanie Benfield (D-Atlanta). “Heels have gotten shorter; skirts have gotten longer.”

    Priceless.

DHS Freshmen Spend 3 Days at the Capitol

DHS Students Speak w/ Senator David Shafer

Kids and the GA Capitol seem to go hand-in-hand today.

DHS teacher Chris Billingsley writes in…

Thirty Decatur High School students from Mr. Beau Dominguez, Ms. Ann Coleman, and Mr. Chris Billingsley’ 9th grade government classes spent the past three days at the state capital learning about state policy issues.  Besides meeting Governor Perdue, students spent time with lobbyist Mo Thrash (a Decatur resident), Senators David Adelman and David Shafer, Representatives Mary Margaret Oliver and Stephanie Stuckey- Benfield, Mayor Bill Floyd and Commissioner Fred Boykin, and many others.

Three days is quite impressive!   All I can remember from my day at the CT capitol in high school is hitting my head on the ornate detailing of the Charter Oak chair.
