Decatur Postpones July 4th Events Until September

    Decatur Metro | July 3, 2013 | 3:04 pm

    From the City’s Katie Abel…

The City of Decatur has decided to postpone our Independence Day events and celebrations in light of the unfavorable weather forecast for July 4th. But never fear! We will host our Faux Fourth Celebration on Saturday September 28th with a Pied Piper Parade, Concert on the Square, and Fireworks! So just put those red, white, and blue decorations back in the attic for a few months and we’ll see you on the Square in September.

Have a safe and happy 4th of July!

Decatur’s Fourth of July Fireworks Will Be on July 4th

    Decatur Metro | July 1, 2012 | 7:50 am

Decatur Fourth of July Pied Piper Parade (sans rats, I assume) and Fireworks will take place on the mid-week, island holiday this year.  Here are this year’s details from the city’s website…

Join Decatur’s July 4th Pied Piper Parade as it winds through downtown Decatur. Decorate your wagon, ride your bike, skate, or walk in this event.

The City Commissioners will lead the parade in the mini-firetruck. Neighborhoods and organizations are encouraged to make floats and join the fun.

Parade line-up is at the First Baptist Church of Decatur at 5:30 p.m. The parade begins at 6 p.m. It ends at the Community Bandstand on the square with a presentation of colors and the Star Spangled Banner.

Anyone may participate in the parade but those with vehicles must register by completing the July 4th Pied Piper Parade Guidelines form.

The concert, featuring the Callanwolde Concert Band, begins at 7 p.m. in the Community Bandstand. Fireworks begin at dark (approximately 9 p.m.) and are shot from the top of the DeKalb County parking deck.

Plan for July 4th Celebration in Downtown Decatur

    Decatur Metro | June 28, 2010 | 11:42 am

From Interim Assistant Director of Active Living Cheryl Burnette…

The City of Decatur will celebrate the 4th of July with a community celebration.

    • 6pm Pied Piper Parade, begins at the First Baptist Church at the corner of Commerce and Clairemont Ave.
    • 7pm Callanwolde Concert Band performs at the Bandstand on the Old Courthouse Square
    • Dark (approximately 9:20pm) Fireworks will be shot from the top of the DeKalb County Parking deck.

Roads downtown will be closed for fireworks fallout following the parade. Roads include Ponce de Leon between Commerce Drive and Church Street, Commerce Drive from Clairemont to southern end of Allen Wilson Terrace, W Trinity Place from the western end of the Maloof Building to Church Street and N McDonough from the Square south to Maple Street.

    Fireworks fallout?  Sounds dangerous! 😉
