    CSD 101 Registration Now Open

    Decatur Metro | July 26, 2010 | 3:05 pm

Asst. City Manager Linda Harris sent this message around earlier today to Decatur 101 grads…

You asked and City Schools of Decatur delivered.   So many of you requested a City Schools of Decatur 101 in your evaluations, and now the first CSD 101 class will be held this fall. Here is the write-up from the Focus:

CSD 101 is a new four-session course designed to educate residents of Decatur about the school system. Modeled on the highly successful Decatur 101, the course is free and open to 30 residents. Classes will meet on Thursday evenings, 7-9 p.m., beginning September 23, in various buildings within the school system. Topics will include history, governance, curriculum, and instruction, finance and special programs. Optional tours are included.

CSD 101 is sponsored by the Decatur Education Foundation in partnership with City Schools of Decatur and is generously funded by a grant from the Decatur Beer Festival. Registration forms will be available July 19. If you are interested in receiving one, send an email to [email protected]

Let me know how you like the course!

    CSD 101 Is Coming

    Decatur Metro | March 31, 2010 | 9:41 am

The Decatur Education Foundation’s Gail Rothham gives us a sneak-peak of a new series of classes which will soon be available free to the community.

CSD 101 is a new, 5 session course designed to educate residents of Decatur about the school system and to share information about history, governance, curriculum & instruction and special programs. Modeled on the popular Decatur 101, the course will be free and open to the first 30 residents who sign up. Registration will not begin until sometime this summer and the course will meet on 5 evenings in September/October. Each session will meet in a different CSD facility and will feature an optional tour prior to the course session.

The course grew out of recommendations that the city include an evening session about the school system in their popular Decatur 101 course. The city and school system felt that one session would not be nearly enough to cover the material and, with the blessing of Linda Harris and Lyn Menne who developed Decatur 101, Decatur Education Foundation applied for and received a grant from the Great Decatur Beer Festival to create CSD 101. If all goes well this will be offered every year.

Behind the Scenes of Decatur’s Fireworks Spectacular

    Decatur Metro | July 8, 2009 | 3:13 pm

Might want to gather up the kids for this one…

Over of The Decatur Minute, Special Events Coordinator Cheryl Burnette has a very cool post that could be described as a July 4th picture diary; detailing the setup and execution of Decatur’s fireworks from the DeKalb County parking deck.

It’s the one day a year we can say “Thank goodness!” for that hideous parking deck.  Can’t set off fireworks from the top of that stupid Swanton House!

Maybe next year it can be part of a summer session of Decatur 101!  Speaking of which, did you hear that the state’s wealthiest city, John’s Creek, has started a similar program in the past year?
