Cakes & Ale Cafe To Begin Serving Wine & Small Plates

    Decatur Metro | October 2, 2014 | 5:01 pm

Decatur restaurant mainstay, Cakes & Ale, is shifting the focus of its secondary neighboring space next to its flagship location from a bakery to a cafe, which also will serve wine and small plates in the evening.

Co-owner Kristin Allin explained to us this afternoon that with the majority of the Cakes & Ale bakery team moving from Decatur to the forthcoming “Bread & Butterfly” location in Inman Park, the Allins “felt this was a great opportunity to expand the wine & beverage services we can offer our guests”.

Allin continued, “The cafe will still offer pastries and coffee/espresso bar during the day but will expand at night to a wine and small plate bar.  Lunch will move into the Cakes and Ale restaurant side next week to allow us to expand our lunch service.”

As for the “wine shop” that was originally rumored, Allin says while they have a retail wine license, they are selling retail wine only by request at this time.

No further details out there yet, but we’re going to hunt around and see what we can find out.

Grindhouse Killer Burgers Considering Building Fourth Atlanta Location in Decatur

    Decatur Metro | October 1, 2014 | 3:27 pm

Grindhouse Killer Burgers is considering building a fourth Atlanta location in downtown Decatur.

The proposed location is 433 North McDonough Street, which you all may know as “the school bus parking lot behind Chick-Fil-A”.

    bus parking

Asst. City Manager Lyn Menne confirmed that Grindhouse is considering the space.  The Downtown Development Authority did a courtesy review of the project in September where it was determined that the project met all zoning requirements.

We reached out to the good folks at Grindhouse, but they had no official comment  at this point because the project is still tentative.  Stay tuned!

    Your Favorite Fall Recipes

    Decatur Metro | September 30, 2014 | 10:07 am

Can you tell that I’m pretty jazzed about this fall weather and that it makes me want to eat things?

What recipes do you wait all year to dig up once fall arrives?

My northern heritage has ingrained fruit pies into my appetite, but I’d like expand my cinnamon-laced gastronomical options.  Post or link to your favorite fall recipes in the comments below.

Best “Pumpkin” Food or Drink For the Money

    Decatur Metro | September 24, 2014 | 8:49 am

With these low 60s degree mornings now a pretty regular thing, there’s little doubt that Fall has finally arrived in Atlanta.  To celebrate, let’s start the day off with a totally overdone, but still somewhat widely loved food (or food like) item.  Pumpkin!

Pie, latte, beer or any of the numerous lay ridiculous Trader Joe’s pumpkin inspired food items.
    Whatcha got?

DaVinci’s Pizza Opening in Old Decatur Mellow Mushroom Space

    Decatur Metro | September 22, 2014 | 11:27 am

    davincis sign

As some of you noted in last Friday’s FFAF, DaVinci’s Pizza – which currently has a location along West Peachtree in Midtown – has begun hanging signage where Mellow Mushroom once resided along West Ponce.  (Reference my terrible picture above.)

You can check out their current menu HERE.

Waffle House Has Secured Lease in Downtown Decatur

    Decatur Metro | September 19, 2014 | 9:45 am

Many of you have inquired about the fate of the Waffle House, which we reported back in April, was in negotiations for the old Sammiches and Stuff space on North McDonough.

We followed up with the city, and Development Services Coordinator Catherine Lee tells us that Waffle House has indeed secured a lease on the property, however they haven’t submitted any plans for the space yet.

    So stay tuned!
