Feel free to use this post to make comments and ask questions about local topics not yet discussed here over the past week.

You may recall back in August that we reported the news that the Decatur McDonald’s location (@ Commerce/Church/Clairemont) could one day be a downtown park. We predictably then debated the merits of such a plan, but we never came across a visual.
Well, apparently there was one! Check out the sketch above from the city’s Parks and Greenspaces presentation from last August.
It looks to include a water feature (?) and some tables (?) in addition to a sizable grass pad in the center.
In fairness, there are SO MANY different kinds of parks, even if there was general agreement that Decatur should build another park, I’m sure there would be a thousand options of what KIND of park it should be.
A performance space. A quite spot to read a book or eat your lunch. A place to walk to lose yourself in thought.
So let’s get a little ahead of ourselves and consider: what kind of park should Decatur build?

For all of you anxious to see the demolition of the weedy, abandoned Ford dealership along Scott Boulevard, we have some news for you.
Pencil “Late 2018” into your calendars.
This is likely when Phase III of Fuqua’s Decatur Crossing development is scheduled to be completed and opened, according to a recent post of the Medlock Area Neighborhood Association website. The final phase of Fuqua’s sizable development will include 90 1-bedroom 700 sq ft senior housing units in a building developed by Columbia Residential.
The development would be for residents 62 and older. and would include 45 parking spaces.
Regarding the adjacent greenspace, the MANA website notes…
There is greenspace set aside in the Fuqua development* and Columbia has been working to adjust their building positioning to increase the park’s size. Columbia would be responsible for maintaining landscaping around its building as well as maintaining this park’s greenspace. The park will be open to the public.

In case you did know, Decatur’s Neighborhood Clean Up Days (formerly “Super Trash Day” or “Trash Amnesty Day”) commenced earlier this month and run thru Saturday, June 4th.
If you’re new to Decatur, this is the one day a year when you can put most anything out by the curb and the city will pick it up and dispose of it. The city summarizes the items it will take, thusly…
Pretty sweet huh? However, they won’t take everything. You can’t throw out the following items on Neighborhood Clean Up Day: Liquids, Dirt, Bricks, Blocks, Stone, rocks, or concrete, or Motor vehicle batteries or parts.
It’s that easy.
“OK, great. So when is this glorious day?”, you ask.
Well, it’s staggered by neighborhood. Some neighborhoods’ clean up day have come and gone already (my bad), but here’s a quick summary of when neighborhoods should get their old water heaters and ovens out to the curb.

Trash on, dear neighbors.
