Decatur Fireworks This Saturday Night

Decatur Metro | September 24, 2013

From Decatur’s website – accept no alternatives!…

4th of July Fireworks will be made up following the Concert on the Square on Saturday, September 28th. Local talent, Roxie Watson, will play on the bandstand starting at 7:00pm. Fireworks will take place at the conclusion of the concert, around 9:15 or 9:30. For more information, contact Katie Abel  404-371-8386.

Brooke sent in a note wondering if the fireworks might start a bit earlier since sunset is at around 7:30p, but based on the note above it doesn’t sound like it.

Dang. Gonna be out of town, and the weather will be perfect. It was so much fun last time when the fireworks were done in September.

Blargle…Was really hoping these would happen closer to sundown. Got two little’uns that we’d like to bring and 9:15-9:30 may be too far past bedtime to justify keeping them up but also a very real possibility that the close-range booms will probably wake them up anyway.

“Before the Constitution could become the law of the land, it would have to withstand public scrutiny and debate. The document was “laid before the United States in Congress assembled” on September 20. For 2 days, September 26 and 27, Congress debated whether to censure the delegates to the Constitutional Convention for exceeding their authority by creating a new form of government instead of simply revising the Articles of Confederation. They decided to drop the matter. Instead, on September 28, Congress directed the state legislatures to call ratification conventions in each state.” (quoting some webpage on Constitution Day, which is Sept 17, but still)

So there. September 28 does have some historic importance for the US. Happy fireworks!

But did they do it early in the evening so as not to disrupt their children? Because you know, even changing the world should take a back seat to our precious little babes.

I heard they filled the room with colicky infants to impart a sense of urgency.
