Armed Robbery at Wahoo! Grill Last Sunday

    Decatur Metro | April 5, 2013 | 10:04 am

Susan asked about details about a robbery at Wahoo! Grill this past Sunday.  Decatur PD sent out this alert to area businesses…

On Sunday March 31, 2013 at approximately 11 p.m. the Wahoo restaurant and its employees were robbed by 4-5 suspects. The establishment had closed for the night
and the only occupants were employees who were conducting end of business tasks. The perpetrators were able to gain entrance to the restaurant by subduing an employee who had exited the building into the back parking lot to dispose of trash. Once inside the restaurant, the perpetrators forced all employees to lie on the floor, while making the manager produce money from the day’s transactions.

Video of the incident show the perpetrators to be very organized and their actions coordinated, with very little communication between the perpetrators. All of the perpetrators wore masks and were armed with handguns.

The Decatur Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the robbery and encourages anyone with information concerning this matter to contact the Decatur Police Department at 404 373-6551.

Restaurant employees and business owners are urged to be vigilant and watchful around closing times. Doors should remain locked while closing tasks are being
completed. The department encourages anyone who desires an escort from their place of business to their vehicle to contact the Decatur Police Department.

Patch also has a description of the event.

that’s distressing to hear–especially since it happened about 300′, as the crow flies, from my back door. hope all the Wahoo folks are recovering well physically and mentally.

Are there any details about the woman who was mugged by the East Lake MARTA station?

All the armed robberies in the past couple of months is very distressing. What the heck is going on?

According to Patch they made off with $75 and 4 bottles of liquor. So each of the 3 robbers gets $25 and 1 1/3 bottles. What a score.

Just wondering, but how do you think Decatur, and people in our brother/sister communities in the suburbs, would react if a legally armed Decatur citizen shot this criminal, or any other armed robber that is preying on our neighbors and visitors to our city, dead. Not just “Oh my God! I didnt mean to kill him. The gun went off accidentally.” , but emptied the entire clip into the criminal, making sure there was no longer a threat, just like our police and others are trained to respond when dealing with a threat to innocent human life. Would our suburban neighbors praise this person as a hero or react critically, calling liberal/progressive/gun-hating Decatur hypocritical? Would Decatur react with thanks or condemn the responsible gun owner?
Now that would generate a record of DM comments!

well, as long as the threat was eliminated and no innocents were harmed, i’d have to tell the citizen either Bravo Zulu or Sierra Hotel.

Georgia law would likely not look kindly unless the citizen doing the shooting was being directly threatened with deadly force by the perp. The “accidentally” would be a hard sell.

Georgia”s Stand your Ground law allows a legal firearm carrier to shot “only if he or she reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent death or great bodily injury,”

Note that it doesn’t have to be your life, or your injury.

If any of the staff had been legally carrying, they could have shot and killed all of assailants regardless of whether or not they were personally confronted or attacked. Same for any other legally carrying citizen who was witness to the event.

Someone bloodily unconscious and someone else with a gun pointed at them falls well within ‘reasonable belief’.

As a Decatur citizen, I don’t have any problem with anyone using deadly force to defend someones life, health or chastity from a criminal.

            Bikeboy has it right.

I have no problem with a business owner or resident taking down fools like this either.
