Abandoned Dog Needs a Home
Decatur Metro | October 18, 2012
This isn’t Decatur specific, but I figured some of you might be able to help this pooch. From Frogs to Dogs Facebook page…
One of our clients who happens to be an Atlanta Police Officer has asked me to post this dog.
Hi Everyone,
This is Nash. She doesn’t know that though. She was left at an abandoned vacant house in SW Atlanta (at the corners of Bolton Rd and Nash Rd) almost two months ago and has taken to the property, never leaving it. Rumor has it that she was good friends with a dog that had lived there but the tenants took their dogs and left her. Police and neighbor’s have put down food and water and she sleeps on the below steps huddled up in a ball. She is very sweet and will take treats out of your hand and even give you a quick hand kiss. She is a Rottie mixed with Shepherd I believe and is under a year. She was emaciated when we first had contact with her but she is being fed regularly and is looking much better.
The problem you ask? The owner of the property is now rehabbing it and has put up for rent signs. He has painters over there every day. I spoke to one of them yesterday and he said that the owner wants to call the “pound”. The painters won’t do it as she is so sweet and stays to herself. The neighbor’s don’t want FCAC (Fulton County Animal Control) to pick her up either. I don’t think there is a lot of time before he gets tenants in. I have a full house or I would welcome her in. I am hoping that everyone can PLEASE forward this on and maybe someone would want her. I will cover all her vet expenses (shots, fixed, flea and heart worm preventative, etc). My phone number is 404-217-1168. This dog is a SURVIVOR and deserves a loving home. PS I have seen her around a stray cat on the property and she has no problems with it.

Thanks for posting this, DM! It may not be “Decatur”, but it’s “Metro”. Now if someone would just step up and give Nash a home, that’d be awesome. Mrs J_T is already threatening to go do it herself even though we have absolutely no room left at the inn!
If a foster or forever home cannot be found, it’s worth seeing if the Atlanta Humane Society has space for her. They are no kill and specialize in cases like this.
Check that. Mrs. Lump just corrected me: AHS only takes existing pets (or puppies, obviously). But I wouldn’t exactly call this deserving girl a stray given her domesticated tendencies and sorta had owners at one point.
I hope that this sweetheart finds a home. Even though she’s not purebred, maybe one of the nearby Rottweiler resue groups would agree to help. There’s an extensive list of rescue organizations at http://www.SpotSociety.org.
…and as a dog lover and also someone who works in law enforcement, can we give a big shoutout to the APD officer who is going above and beyond the call of duty to try and rescue her? Even offering to pay for her vetting, vaccines, etc. I thank you from the bottom of my heart, whoever you are…
I agree!!
Hi all, I was so heartbroken over this sweet girl I couldn’t stop thinking about her all day. I checked the facebook page for frogs to dogs and it looks like the Angels Among Us rescue is taking her in tomorrow. Great news!
so did this sweet girl indeed get AAU to rescue her!? i hope i hope!
