Bloomberg Ranks Atlanta as 16th Best U.S. City

We haven’t seen one of these overall all city rankers in a while – many that make the rounds these days are quite adjective niche (ie best sexiest city!, the most boring city!, the ugliest city!, etc), so I’d thought I’d throw it out there. Over the years, many here (myself included) have said that these rankers are a bit ridiculous, but they do open doors for interesting discussions about our city and other cities around the county.
As mentioned in the post title, in this new Bloomberg ranker, Atlanta hits #16. Here’s the blurb…
Atlanta’s combination of entertainment, cuisine, and parks rates second-best on our list. So why does “Hotlanta” rank only 16th overall? Air quality and unemployment are areas of concern, but Atlanta’s crime problem—second-worst on this list—keeps it from soaring. The city has greatly increased its park space in recent years. Residents can also pay homage to arguably their city’s greatest invention: The World of Coca-Cola (KO) park has educated soda pop enthusiasts for five years at its Pemberton Place location.
We’ll try to overlook the fact that they used a picture of Forsyth Park in Savannah to demonstrate Atlanta’s beauty.

KO Park? Never heard of it.
KO is a link in the original article. It’s Coke’s stock symbol.
Well, we all know Decatur is better than Atlanta by just about any way measurable. So here’s my new six word story:
“Decatur: Better than the 16th Best.”
I know you’re being facetious, and I agree that Decatur is better than 16th, but do you really think Decatur is better than Atlanta when it comes to parks? I think Piedmont and the new Beltline park are real treasures that Decatur does not come close to. I’m not even sure if Decatur has as much of its land devoted to parks as Atlanta does.
Given our relatively small size, I have always felt we had a lot of parks, especially after the addition of the greenspace on Scott Blvd. Atlanta, of course, will have larger parks since it’s a bigger city. a few years ago,Atlanta was way behind other similar size cities in park space. That was before the Beltline development, but I am not sure ATL has entirely caught up.
By the way, a relatively new park in ATL is the skate park off Willoughby Way. It has green space, a tot lot, a place to sit in the shade below solar panels, and the option of watching kids of all sizes risk their necks on skateboards. You can get there via car on Willoughby Way off Ralph McGill, or via bicycle by entering the new Beltline Eastside Trail.
Looks like they heard you about having the wrong picture.
+1
Fun detour on the Eastside Trail.
