Excess heat is particularly dangerous for elders. Call or visit older neighbors, offer to run outdoor errands or provide transportation to a cooling center, and make sure that air conditioning systems and fans are working properly.

This CDC page offers many good tips: http://www.bt.cdc.gov/disasters/extremeheat/elderlyheat.asp.
