The Emory report attributes the rise in the reports of campus assaults of women to an increase in education and support for sexual assault survivors at Emory. To this Emory graduate it looks like Emory needs to contract with a group like Men Stopping Violence to begin to educate and socialize the male students.
+1 Million. People need to learn that no means no, that just because someone invites you back to their room/house (or comes with you back to yours) doesn’t give you license to do what you please, and that any sexual encounter that happens when one or both of the parties is too drunk to soberly & lucidly consent is rife with the possibility of criminal charges. Too many victims get the “s/he should’ve known better than to [fill in the blank]…”, which is why so much of these types of assaults go unreported.
I’m kind of bothered by Emory’s emphasis on the point that this cluster may be due to an increase in reporting. It may or may not be, hard to verify. But even one rape is too many.
