B&L Medical Laboratory Building Historic Facade Exposed

    Decatur Metro | August 28, 2011 | 11:27 am

    Past…

    Present…

    Ain’t that a sweet overhang!

Also, the entire interior has been gutted.  Currently it’s just a huge open space.  Not sure if there’s a tenant yet though, as there’s still a For Lease sign on the front exterior.  Lookin’ good, nonetheless!

Donut shop. Downtown needs a fresh made (fried while you wait) donut shop. It would make a killing.

Can we start the campaign for a Sublime Doughnuts franchise in Decatur? The drive to GT is almost too far, even though the A-town creams are worth it.

Yes, and it needs to be open during the morning AND evening, for maximum donuttery.

I would love to see the Grit in Decatur…I bet a lot of people would be misled by the name though–Cracker Barrel or Waffle House it ain’t.

As one who regularly drives to Athens *solely* to eat there (just a few hours ago, in fact), I’ve certainly wanted something of this nature for years. It just makes sense.

      • lumpintheroad says:

While Cakes & Ale isn’t strictly vegetarian, it is heavily vegetable driven, with quite a few meatless dishes on the menu in my experience. So while a vegetarian restaurant in Decatur certainly makes sense, I’m not sure this is the best place for it. The Watershed space or the old C&A space would be better spots.

I know you were joking but that actually would be kind of fun once/if ever *real* gambling becomes legal here. And lots of tax revenue potential! Lots of states are looking into legalizing gambling to help their budgets out.

But until then, and keeping with your games theme, maybe an arcade!

Toy Store – we need a really cool and fun toy store. Everyone good (small) downtown has one. One that appeals to all ages (not just baby toys and clothes).

We had a toy store like that for years off of Ponce, The Inner Child. It was great, lots of unusual toys and games, great puzzles.

        • Scott says:
          August 29, 2011 at 6:25 pm

+1. In its heyday, that store fostered an ironclad expectation that you could wait until you were on the way, in the car, taking your child to some other child’s birthday party, and you could swing by and find a perfect gift. Done.

          • AnotherRick says:
            August 30, 2011 at 11:08 am

Which is what I did many a time when I had little people.

        • Karass says:
          August 30, 2011 at 9:03 am

It was wonderful. Hoopla kind of got there too but was more limited in range. I also like The Toy Store in Ansley Park but it’s not convenient and hits a slightly older age range. If someone had guts, energy, seed money, and business brains, they ought to try to replicate O.P. Taylor’s in Brevard–it covers the range from infant to young child to older child, from dolls to hobby kits to model trainsets to board games to novelty items, from inexpensive to FAO Schwartz level of prices. It’s a destination, not just a store. It would definitely have whatever one needed for a birthday gift from age 1 through 13, if not older.

          Please steal my ideas!
