Mayor Bill Floyd Will Run for Reelection, “Probably the Last Time”

    Decatur Metro | July 13, 2011

Mayor Bill Floyd tells DM that he will run for reelection to the Decatur City Commission this fall, and that this will probably be his last term serving.

Commissioners Jim Baskett and Kecia Cunningham, who are also up for reelection in the fall, have yet to officially reveal their intentions.

Do I understand the election properly:
      – Our Mayor runs for the District 1 seat?
      – Jim Baskett runs for the at large seat?
      – Kecia Cunningham runs for the District 2 seat?

        That is correct.

Kecia Cunningham confirmed her run for reelection for District 2 seat, at the Oakhurst Neighborhood Association meeting held last Monday

I want to credit Mayor Floyd for submitting to public record our concern over GRTA’s lack of experience with rapid transit.

      Thank you, Bill.

Having served as an elected official for over 20 years is impressive.

We are very lucky to have such a great Mayor.

      Thank you Bill!

I will miss him. I have a sort of politi-crush on him.

The elementary school kids will especially miss him. He’s participated in so many book readings, walk-on skit parts, festivities. Do we have a Mayor Emeritus position he could fill? He always seemed to relish his school visits, rather than being focussed on the political exposure. Hasn’t Elizabeth Wilson be referred to as Mayor Emeritus? No reason we can’t have two!

Ms. Wilson is indeed officially an emeritus, you’re right – why not two?

      Dear Mr. Mayor,
Thanks for your concern and ear for everyone as you serve. many more years, I hope.
Can you recall a commission on which you served in 2001-2001? It was for the DeKalb County improvements at the South River sewer plant at Snapfinger Creek.

The County is putting together another citizen group for the new county-wide CIP. I thought this new group, which I’ helping to lead with John Miller, PE, could take some tips from the last group of citizens who did a similar task.
Let me know if you remember this duty, and if so, I’d love to compare notes.
Hope your summer is going well.

      Best,
      Sally
