Atlantic Station Sorta Backs Off “No More Free Parking” Plan

    Decatur Metro | July 11, 2011

    Wow.  That didn’t take long.

Multiple outlets posted this note from Atlantic Station owners on Friday…

“We are listening to our local community and neighbors’ feedback, suggestions and concerns regarding the new Atlantic Station parking program,” the statement said. “We recognize there are areas we would like to further evaluate and more clearly communicate to ensure this new transition will be as smooth as possible for our retailers and guests.

“A revised plan for the new parking program, which will offer two hours of free parking with validation from shops restaurants, gyms, food trucks and Regal Cinemas, will be shared pending further review.”

I’m not shocked by the general public’s reaction.  Take away anything free and you’ll hear about it.  I’m just a bit surprised that the owners weren’t confident enough in their original plan to stick to their guns on this issue.

Easy for me to say, I guess.  I don’t have bajillions on the line.

Wonder what would happen if they tried to take away the free stuff in Athens?

I would not be surprised if retailers were also not on board with this given the ASTRONOMICAL Common Area Maintenance (CAM) charges they have to pay. Although I’m sure they would appreciate a plan that included retail validation with a minimum purchase versus simply a straight payment which only helps the developer.

I’d also be interested to know if the retailers will have to in turn “purchase” the validation stamps or if they will be given out “gratis.”

The $2 parking fee was an attempt to cut down on the loitering from all the [edited: no name-calling] kids. Atlantic Station used to me my main shopping spot, but my girlfriend would constantly get harassed and “cat called” by these guys. It made her very uncomfortable and pissed me off. Nobody wants to hear, “Damn I’d like to tap that [edited]” while you are Christmas shopping.

I believe you are referring to Atlantic (no)Station.

It’s doubtful that Cobb County White Rail will stop there, especially if the “undesirables” can’t be run off. But if the overlords call pull things together, we’ll be able to call the place “Atlanticobb Station.”

That should read “Cobb County Light Rail.”

My apologies to MARTA, auto-correct is clearly trying to usurp their role. (Now that they’ve switched to a white background on their map, maybe they’ll break out the “Ecru Line.”)

Computer User to Help Desk: “Excuse me, but my auto-correct is making Freudian slips.”

LOL! No harm meant to you, Bobby…. I just couldn’t resist.
