Dunwoody Updates Tagline After Discovering Its Already Been Used

Decatur Metro | November 12, 2010

An update in the Dunwoody logo story from the DeKalb Neighbor…

Last week, Dunwoody officials discovered the city’s tagline was already in use by the Plano, Texas Economic Development Board.

The tagline, which originally read “Dunwoody: Smart People, Smart Place,” has been changed to “Dunwoody: Smart People, Smart City.”

Guess they outsmarted themselves on that one. Priceless!

But they haven’t updated their logo? When will they discover that it’s already being used by Walmart???

Dunwoody: Smart people, slightly used logo.

Am feeling really smug. Boasters get their just desserts.

If you pop “Smart People, Smart Place” in Google, Plano is one of the first things that pops up. It’s a bit odd that they wouldn’t have double checked before giving it the OK.

One of my colleagues lives in Dunwoody (and talks it up every chance he gets) and I haven’t stopped laughing at him since I first saw this terrible, elitist logo! Haha!

This slogan is just as lame as the first one.

Are we at war with Dunwoody or something? Is the logo horrible, yes. Did they do their motto homework, no. Hopefully, they can look toward Decatur for guidance as their venture into municipal status develops. Where did all these ill feelings toward Dunwoody originate?

No ill feelings, just funny. Though, Dunwoody is lame…

I don’t have any “feelings” toward Dunwoody other than benign indifference– but that slogan IS lame. Reeeeally lame.

And they paid lots of money for the right to use someone else’s slogan and a rip of Walmart’s logo. I laughed just as hard at the $8 million Atlanta spent to use Coca Cola red in the AT& T globe, I laughed too.

    still awful

Are they afraid of hiring a TM attorney? A quick and dirty TM search would have helped them find the obvious similarity to Wal-Mart and the Plano slogan as well. For a whopping $1,000 they could have avoided all of this embarrassment. This is pretty “crazy.”

Republicans live in Dunwoody, that’s why they are hated here. Good thing they didn’t put “smart power” in the tag line, since that is taken by the White House. Also, Did Decatur have to change the “churches” to “places of worship” because it was taken by another municipality- what was the reason for the switch?

Wait, wait, wait. I know, I know, I know. Because not all who worship, worship at a church?

      • Jeff says:
        November 16, 2010 at 10:00 am

The slogan was changed because people kept coming to Decatur looking for Church’s Chicken.

Well how about the people who don’t worship at all. What about them? We didn’t have the guts to just remove it all togeather. This would be more like it …. Decatur the city of Homes, Schools, and Pubs, oh, and Places of Brunch.

Decatur: City of Homes, Schools, Zombies, and the godless heathens. Hmm, not very Chamber of Commerce friendly….How about Decatur: City of Friendly Walking Drunks?
