Keeping the AJC Honest/Factually Accurate
Decatur Metro | May 1, 2009 | 8:34 amSorry to be the gnat in your face AJC, but…
Scott sends in a pic of one of your blurbs this morning that REALLY gets the Waffle House museum story backwards…
As we all know, the original Waffle House along E. College Ave was turned into a museum back in September, prior to its nomination for historic status, which was approved on April 28th (thanks to Jay for this tidbit).
By no means defending AJC, but after initially deferring the request, the DeKalb BOC approved designation of the property as a Historic Property at its 4/28 meeting see: http://agenda.co.dekalb.ga.us/cache/00002/537/APRIL%2028,%202009%20BOC%20Summary.pdf
Waffle House museum, the World of Coke… I guess I have the answers to my what-to-do-this-weekend quandary.
When will the Hooters “Wide World of Obesity” show open at the Fox?
I really wish someone would explain why the “museum” is boarded up 99% of the time. I’ve seen the windows uncovered twice since they finished working on it.
Ah…thanks Jay. I figured that might be the case, but didn’t have time to check it this morning. Thanks for doing the grunt work for me. I’ll alter the post just to point out the “museum” claim.
The article is still misleading and confusing. I think that is part of the AJC’s new format – make the reader become the investigative reporter.
Joanna, the museum currently operates by appointment only. My hunch is that WH is biding their time until that stretch of College catches up with Decatur and Avondale in terms of upkeep, at which time it will be a more viable destination business. Since it’s free to visit, it only pays for itself through the PR value of consistent traffic.
Lots of discussion elsewhere on this blog, btw, regarding various things (such as annexation) that might impact the development of that strip.
