I was relatively neutral about the Braves move, recently even somewhat happy about it, as I think Georgia State might actually bring improvements to the area. And since I thankfully don’t have to drive in the area of the new stadium and have little interest in attending professional sports events anymore, I really didn’t care where they went.
But after hearing Ryan Gravel (the Beltline Guy) answer a random question about the Braves relocation, my attitude has changed somewhat. Though he admitted he really couldn’t care less about the Braves either, he believes the new stadium will create huge traffic problems in an area too important economically to ignore, and the state will have to spend more and more limited transportation dollars on fixing the problem.
Why is this a surprise to the planning geniuses nine months before opening day?
We head north through 285/75 on summer Fridays and face a total gridlock, even without a ballpark. I’m not sure they considered the transportation hassle factor with their attendance projections.
“If you build it, they *won’t be able* to come.”
Same here. When I head north on I75 Friday afternoons it is a mess at 285 and the next 5-6 miles of I75 even if I leave work early at 3pm.
