Parker's On Ponce Now Open!
Decatur Metro | November 22, 2008 | 7:32 pmakb writes in with news that Decatur’s only independent steakhouse, Parker’s on Ponce, is now open in the old, desirable Mick’s space on Ponce. Funny, I just checked their website the other day, but it still had nothing on it. But apparently they opened Tuesday…see her note below!
My husband and I were looking for a place to eat last night and noticed Parkers is now open, so we went in. They said they opened on Tuesday. (I’m surprised you didn’t post this, DM! We look to you for all the restaurant updates
The place looks great, the steaks were tasty and the staff was very friendly, although the food was a bit slow to arrive, but they will work those kinks out. They mentioned that the grand opening is sometime in mid-December.
Guess it was a pretty quiet open. My wife said that it didn’t even look open when we drove by just an hour ago (I was too busy feeling out the new crosswalk), but maybe word just isn’t out yet.
Well, now it is! Can’t wait to try it out!
They’ve been on Open Table since Wednesday.
Off topic, slightly: ant idea when Leon’s is scheduled to open?
I believe Leon’s is still scheduled to open mid-January.
What is Leon’s? is that where Rue de Leon was? Oh, I get the name now.
InDecatur received a review in its comments section.
Last I heard, Leon’s wants to open at least one day in 2008 for tax reasons. Look for New Years Eve?!?!
Went to Parkers last night. Parts good, parts just a bit weird. Nice space, very polite, courteous and service minded staff. I thought the bare blank walls in the back room needed some art of some sort. Nicely set tables, good menu, a little crowded space wise, but not a big deal. The food was good. Here are the issues we had……..2 meals grossly undercooked, and sent back for further cooking, apologies made, never rechecked for satisfaction, as my food was still undercooked to my liking, but i ate it anyway without further complaint. So, 2 of us were eating, and 2 of us were waiting for our food to be recooked. This was uncomfortable and awkward, and no service recovery offered other than apologies. Had to ask for steak knives, and extra forks, and sat with empty plates for longer periods of time than should have. I did like the fact that they don’t ask you what you ordered when placing your food down, they just knew and that was good. Another issue was that we ordered a bottle of wine that was great, and then another bottle. The server opened the second bottle and then added some wine to the already partially full glass of the taster. Can’t tell if the bottle is bad if there is still some wine leftover. The place is nice, and food good, but in this economy with folks watching their money and saving to go out on a night like this, some of these errors are not ok. A steak house should know how to cook steak the way the customer ordered it. Period. Parkers is attempting to be a high end steak house, but really needs to train it’s staff in the art of catering to their clients needs before having to ask, and to pay attention to detail. I would expect what occured to us as Teds, Outback, or Longhorn, but not at a place like Parkers. I will ask around to see if others noticed the issues we had. (I did notice the table next to us had a similar issue and was offered a free glass of wine.) In the meantime, I will think twice before spending $200 on a meal where there are serious lapses in service.
