Apollo Creative Group buys into Sunday Paper
    Atlanta Business Chronicle – 1/19/09

Knoxville, Tenn.-based Apollo Creative Group LLC became a majority shareholder of Sunday Paper Publishing LLC, which owns the weekly The Sunday Paper, sundaypaper.com and halfoffdepot.com.

    Financial terms were not disclosed.

Sunday paper Patrick Best said in a news release the deal brings “a significant amount of capital” to pay for expansion into the Charlotte, N.C. and Tampa, Fla., markets later this year, as well as to increase circulation and readership in metro Atlanta.

According to Media Audit’s most recent survey of the Atlanta market, Atlanta-based The Sunday Paper is tops in terms of readership among Atlanta’s weekly newspapers. More than 421,000 people read the latest issue of The Sunday Paper during October and November 2008.

“Frankly, we’re going to use the money to capitalize upon the success we’ve achieved to date with the Sunday Paper brand,” Best said, of expanding metro Atlanta readership. “We’re going to enhance our editorial product and exploit our new position in the marketplace to increase both readership and advertising revenue. Good ideas and great reporting are always in fashion.”
