Team Decatur Looking For Feedback on Decatur Run/Walk Events

    Decatur Metro | March 11, 2016 | 2:34 pm

    team_decaturFrom Decatur Active Living’s Be Active website…

Decatur Active Living wants your opinion! In 2016 Team Decatur is promoting seven Run/Walk Events, each one to benefit a Decatur non-profit organization. All events are 5K (3.1 miles) distance and runner and walker friendly. Some of the races also include ancillary events catered to families and younger participants such as a “tot trot” and/or a one mile race. Always looking to improve, Active Living and Team Decatur would like community input regarding these run/walk events. Please complete the survey by March 19th. Take the survey here.

Tour deCatur Hits the Streets This Saturday Morning

    Decatur Metro | March 9, 2016 | 11:08 am

    def-tour-de-Catur-2016-Xorbia-650px-rev

Are you all ready for Tour deCatur this Saturday?

    No?  We’ll attempt to help…

The event kicks off Saturday morning with the 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk at 8:30a, followed by the 5k at 9a and the “Tot Trot” at 10am. Staging area is Decatur High School at 310 N. McDonough.  On-site, race day registration will begin at 7:45am.

You can view the map for this year’s 5k HERE.  The Tour deCatur benefits the Decatur Education Foundation.

But there’s more!  There are two pre-race locations to pick up your race number and t-shirt ahead of time.

First, on Thursday March 10th you can pick up your number and shirt at Fleet Feet at 421 West Ponce from 4p-7p.

Second, you can pick up your number and shirt at the “Tour deCatur EXPO” at Ebster Recreation Center at 404 W. Trinity on Friday, March 11 from 4p-7:30p.  If you show up for this event, you will also be able to watch a bunch of good-sport CSD teachers take a pie in the face.  You can find more pre-race info and the full list of teachers HERE.

Though race #s and shirts will be available on Saturday, due to the expected high turnout, they are strongly urging everyone to pick up their race # in advance if at all possible.  According to the DEF website, “Picking up your number and shirt in advance will allow you to bypass the lines on Saturday morning and go straight to the football field at Decatur High School, which will be the waiting area for both the 1-mile and 5k races.”

    Decatur Metro | January 5, 2015 | 11:28 am

    Denise sends along this announcement…

The Decatur Bulldog Boosters invites the dog-loving and running communities to join us for the 10th Annual Decatur Bulldog Boosters 5K “Run with the Dogs” next Saturday, January 10 at 9:00am. The weather forecast looks great! Register online at www.active.com and search “Run With The Dogs.”

Come on out and run off a few of those Holiday calories. Well-behaved dogs are welcome to join you!

    Event details and schedule

This run/walk event begins and ends in front of Decatur High School, on North McDonough St., and traverses a scenic, if challenging, course. The RWTD5K will again feature a single 5K race where runners/walkers and dog-owners can run/walk with (or without) their dogs.  T-shirts, awards, and treats will be available to participants as well as a sporty “race-kerchief” for canine companions. All proceeds go to funding the uniforms, equipment, and awards for our student-athletes at the middle and high schools.

Cotton, long-sleeved T-shirts are once again designed by local artist, Adam Pinsley, and will only be guaranteed to pre-registered participants. Limited free parking is available in the DHS upper parking lot off Howard Avenue. Plenty of free parking in the DeKalb County Courthouse parking deck on W. Trinity.

The race will be held RAIN OR SHINE.  However, in the event of hazardous weather conditions (i.e., lightning or ice) the race may be cancelled.  ALL ENTRY FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.

“Run With the Dogs” 5k Needs Volunteers

    Decatur Metro | December 28, 2009 | 9:30 am

Diane sends in the announcement for a fuzzy and chilly 5k run coming in January.

We need volunteers to help with the dog portion of the “Run With The Dogs” fundraiser for the Decatur High Athletic Booster Club. Our group is going to do a couple of contests between the dogs as well as provide water at the final and dog biscuits. Would you like to help? We’re looking for a few high school kids and/or parents that like dogs. The run is on Saturday, Jan 9th  and we need volunteers around 8:45 – noon. We also need a couple of folks to make posters either on or before Friday, Jan 8th.

If interested, please contact Kathleen Maloney at [email protected] or call 404-667-0763 – leave a message

The web site is : http://rungeorgia.com/runwiththedogs.html
