Report: Highland Bakery Opening Location at Emory University

    Decatur Metro | December 9, 2013

    From Tomorrow’s News Today…

Atlanta-based Highland Bakery will open a new location on the campus of Emory University early next year.  The popular intown breakfast and lunch spot will replace Einstein Bros. Bagels, which recently closed on the ground floor of the Goizueta Business School.  A recent survey posted to Facebook by the university’s newspaper the Emory Wheel sought student feedback on what should open in place of the shuttered bagel joint.  Highland Bakery was among the top recommended and subsequently “liked” options, but Atlanta-based Waffle House was the top vote-getter.

Emory’s Cox Hall Welcomes D.B.A. Barbecue and Twisted Taco Among Others

    Decatur Metro | August 14, 2013

Emory’s Cox Hall seems to be going the route of Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, including more local restaurant options.  Good news for students, faculty and staff.  From Tomorrow’s News Today…

Twisted Taco had planned on opening near Emory Village in 2009 but those plans never materialized. The restaurant would have been on Oxford Road where Yogli Mogli, Romeo’s New York Pizza and Chipotle Mexican Grill later opened.

There are currently six Atlanta area locations of Twisted Taco including locations in Buckhead, Smyrna and Johns Creek.

D.B.A. Barbecue’s flagship and only other location is off North Highland Avenue in Virginia Highland, a few miles from Emory’s main campus.

Chipper Jones To Speak at Emory Class Day

    Decatur Metro | April 24, 2013

According to the Emory Wheel, retired Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones will speak at Emory’s Class Day this year on Thursday, May 9th…

Jones, who played for 19 seasons with the Braves starting in 1993, holds the Braves’ record for career on base percentage and places third in the team’s all-time home run list. In addition, he received the National League’s Most Valuable Player Award in 1999 and the National League Silver Slugger Award in both 1999 and 2000.

Michael Kloss, Emory’s executive director of University events and chief of protocol, wrote in an email to the Wheel that Jones’ career with the Braves “should be an inspiring story to the senior class.” He noted that loyalty to a single employer — or team, in this case — is “not necessarily the expectation of many entering the workforce today.”

“[It] will be a story worth hearing,” Kloss wrote.

In other Emory guest-speaker news, the Dalai Lama is scheduled to return to Emory for two days in October.

Everybody’s Pizza in Emory Village Closing After 41 Years

    Decatur Metro | March 7, 2013

Oh wow.  John Kessler posted this press release from Everybody’s owner Andy Kurlansky…

After 41 great years in Emory Village, we are retiring from the restaurant business.

We are proud to have served some 3 million pizzas to multiple generations of Atlantans since 1971.

Here’s to all who had their first dates at Everybody’s, met their spouse at Everybody’s, or celebrated other of life’s joyous events with us.

Thanks to all in Atlanta who have been loyal fans of our pizza, and who have been guests in our “home.”

But most of all, we thank all of the wonderful folks who have worked with us throughout these 41 years, for they have been the true heart and soul of the place.

Without their dedication and love, none of it could have happened.
