Well this is delicious news.
Decaturish reports that the folks behind Taiyo Ramen in Downtown Decatur and Suzy Siu’s Baos in Krog Street Market are opening “Double Dragon Oakhurst Chinese” in the former Saba space in downtown Oakhurst.
According to Decaturish…
The restaurant will source locally from Global Growers, Riverview Farms, Aluma Farm and Finch Creek Farms. The menu will have classic American Chinese Dishes like General Tso’s Chicken, Mongolian Beef, Egg Rolls and Hot and Sour Soup.
Plans are to open this Spring. More info over on Decaturish.

Charts and tables apparently don’t get the attention on the social media as a colorful photo. But this is important, wonky stuff so to heck with it. To heck! (Plus I’m too lazy dig for a photo just now.)
OK, so let’s try to get up to speed on this topic, since we haven’t spent enough time looking at it.
As many a parent and concerned citizen knows, the City Schools of Decatur are considering options as they prepare to accommodate more students in the coming years.
They publicly floated three options recently, which were reviewed at a community meeting in mid-March:
Decaturish reported from the meeting earlier this month that some seemed to favor K-2 Option 2 to Option 1, because Option 1 would put all the 3-5 schools on the southside of the city. And many residents were concerned about the traffic it would create.
Also, some are wary of the K-3 option because the K-3 schools would still be at 103% capacity even with the expansion.
In a follow up post, Decaturish noted that Glennwood parents were concerned that the school system had already settled on K-3 Option 2, which would make Glennwood a 3-5 school. But CSD stated that they weren’t settled on any option at this time and were still open to other configurations – beyond the three stated options – and was requesting all kinds of feedback from the community, not just on the three options. The survey, which we posted about earlier this month, closed on this past Monday.
So what are your thoughts? What’s the best solution?
Decaturish reported that the Superintendent hopes to make a final call on the K-5 schools configuration before summer. And then next year we can all regroup and have an exciting conversation about redistricting – a perennial topic around these parts the last few years.
Also – just your enjoyment and edification, after the jump you can see the three presented options in slide format, courtesy of the Cooperative Strategies presentation at the community meeting back on March 13th. Enjoy!

Oak Brewpub is now open at 630 East Lake Drive in the former Mulligan’s space in the Family Dollar strip in Oakhurst.
Decaturish reports that while the pub’s own brews aren’t available yet, they’re serving a craft beer and cocktail selection and is currently open Tuesday thru Saturday from 4p-10p.
Oak was called one of the most anticipated Atlanta breweries in a Jan ’16 Atlanta Magazine article.

UPDATE II: Power seems to have been restored to most businesses and all the traffic lights along West Ponce.
UPDATE I: DPD doesn’t know the cause of the outage, but said GA Power plans to be working on it until around 3p.
Use caution driving or walking downtown today. Power seems to be out along most of West Ponce. Traffic lights are totally out and many businesses are closed.
I’ve asked the Decatur PD what’s up and will report back once I know more.

Well, it was bound to happen.
This is one of the most trafficked parking lots on the northside of the city. Joe – a business owner with parking in the “Dancing Goats parking lot”, was good enough to give us a heads up…
The parking lot behind Dancing Goats is shared by my business, Fleet Feet, Sprint, as well as the studios downstairs in the back, such as Decatur Yoga and others. After years of complaints about the lack of parking, yesterday the landlord gave the OK for an outside company to start booting cars that are parked in the spaces reserved for Fleet Feet, Feather Baby and Sprint.Because nobody wants to see cars booted, especially those of our customers and neighbors. On the other hand, for our small businesses to survive, customers need to have easy access to our stores. It would be helpful if you would put the word out, so to speak, that drivers need to be considerate choosing a parking spot, even if just for a couple minutes, or they might be in for an unpleasant surprise.
