Nice piece in “curbed Atlanta” about the new development at 2nd Ave. and Hosea Williams:

      http://atlanta.curbed.com/2016/11/30/13797456/east-lake-hosea-2nd-new-adaptive-reuse-village#hosea-2nd-photographed-this-week-from-the-corner-of-hosea-williams-drive-and-2nd-avenue-this-corner-space-will-be-home-to-mary-hoopa-s-house-of-fried-chicken-amp-oysters

I’d be glad to see (almost) anything going in there, but this looks both architecturally interesting and filled with places I might actually enjoy spending money at occasionally.

Their phasing plan seems pretty sharp. Restaurants bringing buzz, then housing and office, then finally retail. Seems too often retail gets leased before there’s near enough people around. Also: Delicious BBQ.

Kids vs. Restaurants is often a topic that leads to heated debate, but thought I’d offer up the following info as a general PSA, as quoted from the Poor Hendrix website.

“Our bar and patio are 21+ but the restaurant is all-ages. We do have more of an adult vibe and our dining room is small and intimate so we do not have highchairs or booster seats. We are happy to welcome all of our neighbors to dine with us!”

Haven’t visited personally yet, but first impressions of the space and food seem to be overwhelmingly positive. They were issued their boozing permit yesterday, so no more BYOB if you see that mentioned in online reviews.

I’m eating there tonight, I can’t wait! The food looks FANTASTIC.

When is the Clairmont Marketplace this year? I haven’t seen any publicity for it.

Seems like this is inside every headline you click on the AJC website.

Wondering about this also. They originally said they planned on reopening around Thanksgiving. Facebook page and everything else is still dark.

Wow…it’s DECEMBER, fer cryin’ out loud! Where did this year go?? I’m nowhere near ready to think of Christmas, but there I was, looking up at the tree atop LSOS, feeling all holiday-spirity. Here’s to a 2017 that’s better than this year we’re leaving behind!

Does anybody know why MARTA moved the eastern terminus of the #2 bus route from Decatur Station to East Lake?

      • The Luggage says:
        December 5, 2016 at 8:54 am

Hey, Smith, where did you get that information? I am not finding anything on the web that would indicate the No 2 route has changed.

      • Steve says:
        December 5, 2016 at 9:23 am

I think it starts in a week or so and you’ll have to ask MARTA why. Here is an announcement http://www.itsmarta.com/marta-hosts-public-hearings.aspx. They revamped the website and I can’t find the specific info.

Thanks, Steve. That really stinks, at least for me, and I can’t imagine why they’d do that. Ugh.

Agree. I didn’t take the #2 that often, but it was my way to Ponce City Market…

I ride it a few times/month to midtown. Yes I can take the train. but I liked the convenience of the direct route, and I always get a seat. If I work late I’ll put my bike on it. I will really miss the route 🙁

#2 is being rerouted so that when heading east it turns down East Lake to East Lake MARTA.

MARTA never explains why. My speculation:
              – a bulk of the ridership are morning/evening commuters who transfer by train
              – East Lake is the least utilized MARTA station in the entire system (I had a student group that asked MARTA for ridership data a couple of years ago and this was quite clear)
              – moving the station allowed them to increase the frequency (their press release) and boost East Lake ridership …
              – observation: some evenings I am the only person on the bus between Decatur and Briarcliff/Ponce.

MARTA does not publicize well … but there were public hearings …

              http://www.itsmarta.com/marta-hosts-public-hearings.aspx

I cannot find the new schedules online anywhere. Their publicity of what the new routes are really stinks. At one point I saw a press blurb that talked about the changes (it might have been a flyer on the bus). The #123 is also changing — I think it now heads to East Lake on the southbound leg (you can see bus stops that went up on Howard Ave)
              (sad)

I’m guessing increasing frequency on that route is the main goal, as the current North Ave. to Decatur route is quite long. I may be mistaken, but I seem to recall that the #2 had stopped going to Decatur several years ago, and that part of the route was restored in the last few years. I guess ridership didn’t justify it continuing to do so.

You are correct. They eventually split the #2 into #2 and #102, which turns at Candler Park station.

      December 5, 2016 at 7:45 pm

I gotta take up for my East Lake Station. According to MARTA’s 2014 stats, Vine City and Edgewood/Candler Park both had fewer daily station entries. Just sayin’.
