Winnona Park Elementary Holiday Tree and Candle Sale This Saturday

Mark your calendars! The Winnona Park Elementary Holiday Tree and Candle Sale is taking place on Saturday, December 3 from 9am-3pm and Sunday, December 4 from 11am-3pm while supplies last. Fraser Fir trees and wreaths are delivered freshly cut from a farm in North Carolina. There are several sizes to choose from, with prices ranging from $65-$85. This year we will also be selling Hanukkah candles at a price of $10 a pack. All proceeds benefit the Winnona Park PTA.

Get the kids bundled up and fill them with hot chocolate. It’s tree lightin’ time!

Local Decatur businesses are kicking off the season with the 8th annual Decatur Christmas Tree Lighting! Come out to East Court Square, in front of Little Shop of Stories, on Thursday, December 1 at 7 p.m. for the Tree Lighting celebration, complete with hot chocolate, carols, snow and a visit from a jolly man in a red suit!

Oakhurst Porchfest Wins “Best of Atlanta” Award

Woohoo! In case you’ve yet to hear, Atlanta Magazine has awarded the Oakhurst Porchest a “Best of Atlanta” award this year under the category of “Neighborhood Festival” with this write up…

Before the last amp had been unplugged at the second annual Oakhurst Porchfest in October, the chatter had already begun: Can we do this again in the spring? Close to 200 musical acts—from family groups to soul singers to Americana bands by the wheelbarrow-full—arranged themselves in front yards and on porches throughout this Decatur neighborhood. Pity the motorists trying to weave through the narrow streets, which were packed with thousands of attendees. oakhurstporchfest.org

As always, Porchfest wouldn’t be what it is without the countless support and energy of the Oakhurst neighborhood. This a credit to all of you for putting on a hell of an event for the community the last two years. And in the future!

Mellow Mushroom Reopens in Decatur on Monday, December 5th

Mellow Mushroom’s return to Decatur is scheduled for next Monday, December 5th according to a comment on the restaurant’s Facebook page and a recent AJC profile.

You may have also noticed that the the entire 340 West Ponce building has received a colorful face-lift as part of the renovation.

Decatur’s old Mellow Mushroom location in the CVS plaza closed a couple years back. The new spot is under new management and will sport the chain’s newer “punk rock motif” with literary references, according to the AJC post.
