Why are you calling it a “bomb” threat? Maybe I missed it, but I don’t see any characterization of the type of threat.
I don’t think it’s at the link cited but, apparently, the caller said “I’m going to blow up the school.”
Yeah what Scott said. But I take your point in reference to the link above. Decaturish has more info.
Oh, man: a brewery vs. distributor topic on DM.
*Puts on helmet in advance of 100+ comment thread*
Quick, grab the popcorn!!!
I will be the first to open up on the Brewery vs. Distributor debate. What the DOR did was shady, at minimum. You mean to tell me you “interpret” the law in nearly an opposite way of the intent and way it was written? The only reason the DOR would have done this is shady politics from the heavy pockets of the distributors.
The fact that local brews, small businesses that actually create jobs, are being stifled by archaic political opposition is ridiculous. Our apparent “pro-business” Republican representatives in the state are anything but. They are only for businesses that line their campaigns with cash and it is very evident.
They are pro-business, except when being pro-business conflicts with [a certain segment of the population’s interpretation of] the bible, in which event pleasing that constituency is more important.
They are pro-campaign donation, and the distributors have spent decades donating significant sums to the right people in the right positions (such as Casey Cagle), and making connections with the DOR. That is something that is very hard to overcome in one year or even two years.
Having said that, I hope that the distributors overreached in this case and we can finally take home all the sweet, sweet Wild Heaven we want.
I certainly do not disagree that both parties talk a big game and then do a 180. In this case, however, many Republicans were behind this bill (including the lawmaker that introduced the bill and is now fighting the DOR). I think maybe even more than Democrats….
Agreed. I am all for David Ralston, he is actually trying to do some good work. He understands that new breweries create jobs and business for Georgia. We literally are behind every state in the nation except for a handful in terms of per capita breweries and revenue from breweries. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, but I honestly don’t hold my breath.
We have actually considered opening our own but it just isn’t worth it with the amount of restrictions and back-and-forth policies.
I love how there’s something about a bomb threat and a bullet at a school full of children, and almost all the comments are about beer.
I lied. I don’t love it. But that’s our Decatur! <3
Bomb threats come and go, but IPAs last forever!
