0830 and I’m the first? Must be a holiday weekend. Stay safe out there.
Y’all all out shopping?
Now that Thanksgiving is over, what are you doing for the December holidays?
Science of Fun will have camps Dec 29 – Jan 2. Partial weeks are fine.

Thanks!
Had dinner at the Colonnade yesterday and enjoyed it thoroughly. They were doing a huge take out business as well–something to keep in mind for next year…
Got the response to our property tax appeal this week — very much in our favor. Woohoo!
You know what it’s time for? Favorite books from 2014 posting! Pretty please?
Ha, OK we’ll start kicking those “Favorite of 2014” posts next week! 🙂
Thank you!!
Ah Decatur. Eating my Indian thali at Chai Pani and watching Santa Claus and an elf stroll up the street.
Thanks to DM and posters for the reminders on Small Business Saturday! Got my 3 $10 Amex rebates and 3 restaurant coupons!
Is anyone noticing the “intelligent” robo-calls? Those are the ones that have voice recognition and respond robotically to whatever you say, varying their response depending on what you say, trying to mimic a live person. You can tell that’s what they are because if you try to interrupt, they don’t know what to do and keep on talking.
what the what is up with those? and is the ‘no-call list’ null & void?
It’s ignored.
Anyone know where all the fire trucks were going heading north on Scott Blvd. around 3 PM this afternoon? I saw at least 3 but maybe there were more.
I’m assuming from their direction of travel that the emergency vehicles were unrelated to the crummy mugging of grandmother/granddaughter on West Ponce around the same time of day. Am hoping that the 16 year old suspect “from Decatur” with outstanding warrants is from postal, not city of, Decatur. I’ve never met a DHS kid who seemed capable of that and don’t want to either. And this is another example of how risky it is to walk around with one’s phone out, even in broad daylight. I’m wondering if there’s iPhone/Android cases that can make your phone look like an old flip phone not worth mugging you for.
Well, if he’s a resident of City of Decatur, it’s still possible he’s a Paideia kid.
+1
Good point and I never should have said that I hoped the student was from postal Decatur. What I meant was that I hoped it wasn’t a DHS student. I wish it wasn’t any 16 year old kid at all. I was just dismayed to think it was a student that we might know.
Small fire in a house on Mockingbird Ln.
Thanks and sorry for the homeowners.
Yeah all the criminals live out here with the unwashed and unloved citizens of Not Decatur.
I just don’t want it to be someone I know and that my kids go to school with because it would make me sad. I’m less likely to know a student from outside of COD. I guess there’s the unlikely possibility that the boy is from Decatur, Alabama, or Decatur, Illinois! Of course, I’d prefer that no 16 year old, from any address, was responsible for a mugging.
What charities are selling Christmas trees around Decatur?
Decatur Boy Scout Troop 107, one of the oldest, if not the oldest, BSA troops in the state, is selling trees and wreaths in the parking lot of Oakhurst Presbyterian Church, 118 Second Avenue. If you go to the Oakhurst Pres Facebook page and click on the Boy Scout posting, the attached flyer has coupons for $3 off of the trees and $2 off of the wreaths.
First Christian Church, at Ponce and Nelson Ferry, sells nice trees and wreaths; for $5, they’ll deliver to City of Decatur addresses.
Has the Winnona Park Elementary School tree sale already happened?
