Where are the best fresh dinner rolls to pick up around Decatur? I love almost everything at Alon’s but their dinner rolls are only ok. I love the breads at Cakes and Ale or Las Calaveras (sp?) bakeries but rolls, not bread, are traditional in my family. There’s some great store-bought options but they are over-used in my home and thus not special.
AHID, get you some Sister Schubert rolls in the frozen section — heat and serve. So good it is a joke.
Happy Thanksgiving!
i always go to Mary Mac’s, set a big shopping bag under the table, then dump 5-6 baskets of their yeast rolls and cornbread into it. the price is right, and my guests are always impressed.
Thanks. Not a fan of Mary Mac’s in general but do like the breads there.
“honey, you should tell people you’re just kidding when you write these things—you know the kids’ teachers and lots of people we know read the blog”
“pfft, they all know i’m being ridiculous”
“um, no they don’t: playdates are getting cancelled, our dinner invitations are down, and whenever we go to Baby Kroger I’ve noticed employees trailing us around the store . . .”
“oh”
Rhodes Bakery on Cheshire Bridge, a few doors down from the Colonnade, does a might fine Parker House roll.
