Accident at Scott/Clairemont Snarls Morning Traffic

    Decatur Metro | October 16, 2014 | 9:01 am

    IMG_1798.JPG

Speaking from personal experience, this was a mess this morning. Kathy fills us in on the cause…

These 4 accidents cause the visible gridlock on the major roads in the Scott/Clairemont area. The neighborhood cut-throughs, like Superior, Willow, Medlock, and Lamont were all backed up, too. Major traffic headache this morning. At least one of these accidents was a major accidentโ€”hope no one was seriously injured.

Not sure if it’s four accidents or one accident reported four times. Either way, hope all involved are ok.

This explains the helicopter noise. Hope it was traffic helicopter not emergency airlift helicopter.

(With appropriate respect to those involved and those affected…) Lets just say that Superior Avenue is not equipped to handle *all* the inbound traffic from Scott Blvd. To where did DeKalb PD expect these people to disperse, I wonder?

Thanks for the information – had no idea it was four separate accidents. That explains the marta bus traveling down my tiny street off Westchester Dr and the 10+ cars following around 7:20AM. Lot of extra cars/commuters trying to navigate around the situation on our side of Scott Blvd. too. After waiting 30+ minutes on the DHS/RMS bus, drove the kids to school.

Difference with my child vs. yours is that mine, who I believe rides the same bus, from a different bus stop, never called to report that the bus was late! ๐Ÿ™‚ Sigh.

myself and another parent have 6th graders – and tend to hang around till we make sure our cuties get on the bus safely. High schoolers tolerate our presence ๐Ÿ™‚ – but this is one morning I was glad we have this habit or we may not have known either. Besides its the route the dawg takes me on anyway.

You hang around for your 6th graders? Do I hear a helicopter? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yes I am! with the amount of non-residential commuter traffic that passed through our neighborhood everyday – and through the intersection where the bus stops – I bet you and others would too. Besides its a great way to chat/catch up with neighbors walking/biking to and from the newly opened Westchester school.

๐Ÿ™‚ Just promise they can roam free in 7th grade. Baby bird’s got to leave the nest! Don’t clip those wings!

yes – I promise (that has been the plan all along) ๐Ÿ™‚

I appreciate all parents who are out there in the community doing the it-takes-a-village thing, whether it be at the bus stop, football games, Friday on the Square, school dances, whatever. If there’s enough parents roaming the community, helicopters are not necessary. I tell my kids that I have a pact with all the other parents–I’ll tell them if I see their kids in dubious locations or doing dubious things if they’ll do the same for me and my kids. I mention the time that I was in the library during the school day and saw one of my children’s middle school classmates who lamely claimed “I’m sick today…” (I promptly called his grandmother (guardian) in case she didn’t know he was sick.)

I tell my son the same thing. I will hear about it!

“InstaTwitBook” often documents teen miscreant behavior. We just have to look for it. But yes, the kids seem oblivious at times that us parents have social networks that parallel theirs …

I’ve got to get better at that. I find it all so banal and boring that I don’t persist in learning the technology and making it part of my routine.

Found Thursday morning: a set of keys on Candler near the intersection with Kirk.

Big accident on S. Candler St. & Kirk Rd this morning around 1 am. Apparently, there was an eye witness who said a car going southbound was sideswiped and flipped into a yard with bushes. The car responsible did not stop and continued heading south on Candler. I believe the driver who flipped was ok. Really scary sounds jolted me out of bed in the wee hours.

What website provided this map? It has MUCH more detail than I was getting through Google Maps on my iPad or phone (with tan background and dashed red or orange lines).

The image appears to be a Google Map screenshot.

The dashed lines indicating traffic speed have been added by GDOT or some other entity. Other than that, it looks like a normal Google Maps image.

This was just a screenshot from Google Maps. Under the search bar, if you click on “Traffic” it will show you the detail. I had to zoom in twice in order to get the “accident” icons to show up. So, if you’re on too wide a view, you won’t get that detail.
